I lived in Australia for 5 years asbsolutely loved the country, all my friends are australians. This is a fantastic country, but I want to see the world and yes definetly want to jump to the US at some stage its easier form Canda than Australia so thats my reason. But there are plenty of guys and gals here who dont make it I think it really depends on the individual to make things work rather than the place. I have found that for my self . All the best !

Go to New Zealand...My relative went as a student there and he LOVED it. He was 24. Labor jobs pay 10 NZD an hour and are VERY easy to get. Until a few months back getting a PR was easy. (same point system as Canada but much faster) , now they want you to be "invited". Heard that even that's not too tough.. DEFINITELY BETTER THAN AUSTRALIA. (and NZ PR holder can work in Australia)

My two cents worth on Australia especially for people who are planning to go there instead of Canada.

1. Australia has a known history of only about 150-185 years. It was used as an island for banishing thiefs, robbers, criminals in the UK and its colonies. Generally any Australian you meet will have an ancestor who was a thief. This criminal activity is in their genes. It gets reflected in everything that country does.
NewZealand - Australia are cricketing rivals similar to India-Pakistan. In one match the NZ team was going to win, last ball and two runs remaining. The Australian bowler bowled under arm! When they lost test match with India in Adelaide, people in stadium shouted bad words towards Indians. People who have lived there for more than a decade were frightened looking at this mass behaviour.
India helped Australia in getting Olympics 2000, but Australia helped China in getting Olympics 2008.
There are so many education universities, shelling out degrees, many are not recognised throughout the world. They are very costly as well. There is no such thing as scholarships, assistantships. If you want to earn while you learn you have to go around looking for some job, which is very difficult and if found very low paying.
Recently there were many letters coming from some guy with PO Box address in GoldCoast (east cost of Australia) asking people to send 20$ to participate in some lottery. The letter showed as if you had already won millions of dollars. This is somewhat similar to emails we get from Nigerians. Very good at marketing.

2. The economy of Australia is small as compared to Canada. It has a history of Depressions. There have been many cases, where suddenly there is a boom in a remote town based on some mining activity. Property prices grow, people are required, immigration policies are changed to meet this demand. Suddently boom, these towns become ghost towns and lots of people lose money in this process. Like vagabonds they get thrown to other cities. Kalgoorlie town is one such example.
They have many metal reserves (digger's paradise). Probably one of the reasons for supporting China in Olympics 2008 was their intention to supply metal required for rapid development of infrastructure required for the Olympics.

3. They will mimic what the US does, they do not have any news of their own (other than crime reports). Public issues, US Presidents comments (on world and internal), hot topics from CNN, nytimes.com get echoed in Australia in a matter of days on news.com.au as comments by Australian politicians.

4. On the one hand they had a lot of manpower shortage in IT a couple years back on the other they negotiated very hard with US for Free Trade Agreements especially for Government IT Contracts even giving away some of their farmers benefits.

5. During Olympics 2000 there were lot of discrepancies and manipulations of results. Also the way Channel 7 covered the olympics was very rustic. They tried to show countries like Canada and India in poor light.

6. There was a series on Television wherein a few people travelled to India and China separately, in this program they again stressed all negative aspects like poverty, poor road conditions, crimes in Goa, etc. No wonder suddenly Indian government has a massive National Highway Golden Quadrilateral road linking program.

7. The cities on the east coast are more racist than on the west coast. I remember being followed by a group of young village boys in Brisbane who even stepped on my shoes to show thier respect for diversity. Scaring!
Pauline Hanson got elected from Queensland. She had a very vocal anti immigrant policy.
Even the current Prime Minister has taken some steps against people who illegally try to immigrate into Australia via sea (called as boat people). They are kept in miserable conditions. Their handling is supported by the general people.

8. The native people of this land, the blacks are not at all treated well.

9. Travel from West Coast (Perth) to East cost (Sydney) is more costly than travel from Sydney to Delhi.

10. Infrastructure is excellent. Facilities are excellent.

11. Air is clean. Cities are clean.

12. Food is cheap.

13. Not sure how to become citizen of Australia. Citizenship of UK Canada US is well documented and there is a path well defined, not sure about Australia.

14. White country, so generally citizens of Australia are well received in US,UK,(Canada?),Europe.

15. They are very lazy people. Guess same is true for Canada/US/ME, don't know.

16. Tax structure is hopeless. It can go as high as 47% and this tax you have to pay at very low salaries. About 40k per year and you enter this bracket. It is as if Government does not want you to earn more. In case you earn more, most of it is taken away by the Government. Why do you need money? Government is there no! to take your care in old age!

17. Even companies like Infosys is having difficulty in Australia because of anti outsourcing stand. Hence they had to buy a local company and retain Australians many of whom are probably useless. They do not like Australian money being remitted to outside countries. A AU$ cheque gets credited in indian account in about 3 months.

18. The emails of employees (especially if used from company email account or sent while at work or using company internet), mobile phones (especially if phone is paid for by company) are tapped. All communication is legally available to management and will be used against you.

19. It is surprising how Australian PM was in New York the day attack took place. It is also surprising how Australia participated with US in war on Iraq(albiet with small number of troops). Wonder if this was pre planned. Australia will do anything to be closer to US.

Hopefully this gives some insight into what Australia is. Maybe some one can compare these points with Canada, also someone can point to sites where discussion on australia exists.

Most of the Australian Jobs are only in 2 cities( I mean I.T) :
Melbourne/Sydney

In Sydney a moderate house costs around $4,00,000
