When one of my colleage was searching internet for some information, some spywares got installed. Spybot revealed them to be Alexa Toolbar and Coolwebsearch but could not fix it. CWshredder does not reveal any spyware.
It is workplace computer. IS department in the office ran MS Antispyware 3-4 times. First time they ran it, found some malwares but now even though MS Antispyware says 0 spyware on the computer still all those bookmarks installed by spyware are still there. Homepage still remains "hijacked." Homepage takes to a search engine where some terms like "Viagra" is already filled in the search field.
Can delete those bookmarks but all unwanted bookmarks return after restarting the browser.
Is there any way to solve this problem?
Can system restore point help in Windows XP?

There are a couple of things you can try - first raise the level of security in your IE to medium high from the default (medium). This prevents most browser hijack attempts. Next you need a good spyware cleaner. If you are looking for a good cheap solution, try Ad-aware from Lavasoft. Its free for personal use. I have been using it for about 4 or 5 months now and find it reasonably good. A combination of a good antivirus and spyware is a must, for antivirus I use EZ-trust from Computer Associates - they give free updates for 1 year.
Just read your post - its a workplace computer - Ad-Aware is not free for businesses, you will probably need to buy a license. In that case you can explore alternatives to Ad-aware - I recommended Ad-Aware since its free (atleast for personal users).

Use firefox... better browser than IE anyday, tabbed browsing, built in popup blocker, and no spyware (atleast for now).
http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/" rel="nofollow">LINK
u can also try the new Netscape browser which is supposed to have both IE and FireFox features.. and switches from one to other depending on the credibility of a website..
For existing spyware.. use various tools like Spybot,Adaware, Microsoft AntiSpyware..

Your attitude, not your aptitude, will determine your altitude.
go to castlecops site. also download highjackthis program and run to check for problem.
there is some virus dll file which runs again after you delete all bookmarks etc.. so you need to identify it and delete it. the site I mentioned above would definitely give a solution.
