Agree 100%. This is not about skills or intelligence or capability of Indians. It is pure exploitation of Indians by Indian companies, especially those located and operating in the US in small scale.
Also prevailing wage is a joke at best. If you look at the sources where the employers are allowed to quote prevailing wages, you'll find a huge range in the salary and in most cases, guess which end of the salary range the employee gets paid?
It's a hostage situation. The employee is held hostage with the threat of termination and the guys dreaming of the "American Dream" fall for this nonsense.
Yup...the dream 'might' become a nightmare. Prevailing wage was always a game. The threat of termination is the worst...one has to file forms just to remain 'in status'.

True. They pay very well, sometimes more than the prevailing wage and lots of perks. I have friends who work in MS and Oracle. At the same time its real bloody hard to get a job there. Competition is fierce and top layer get in.

Foreign born employees such as Asians, Hispanics and Europeans put in long hours. No doubt. These folks are grateful for the chance given to them by Google.

I hope Google reciprocates n is grateful to have them.
Remember when Linux was just launched n everybody were talking about "Free" operating systems n all ... On one of the questions around this "Free OS", Steve Balmer answered "We value our products".
When required, I have spent number of odd hours in operations - I am not saying just do 9-5. But its wrong to assume that person staying beyond 5pm is more productive than others. On the contrary, I would question efficiency - even if one is cheap labour.
There used to be that mentality back home - Can't leave as yet, Manager is still around ... I am not sure if it still prevails

9-5 work hours may be justifiable in other fields except in IT. I am in IT for years.
There were some companies who would tell their employees (perhaps senior levels like Software architect) to work from anywhere anytime and Adobe was one of them. My personal experience was that I got most of the ideas when I was not bound in the office. So it all counts not just sitting in the office and doing coding or attending meetings will make u more productive. IT demands free mind and it should not to be in the limits of 9-5.
And if some one does overtime sometimes u never know what has struck in his mind the time he was about to leave the office at 5.
There are guys who can solve the problems in couple of hrs and there are some needs couple of weeks. So no. of hrs are meaningless as long as u can finish the product within time
