only people who benefitted are the good for nothing Bollywood stars and the middlemen that organized and orchestrated this whole circus.
Looks like it is not only Canada that is interested in Bollywood ...... New Zealand is also trying to woo bollywood ....... or maybe he is also trying to get desi votes

Tourism New Zealand, Chief Executive Kevin Bowler said, showcasing New Zealand’s tourism appeal on the big screen has played a strategic role in attracting Indian visitors to our country. I would like to thank to all the producers that choose to incorporate New Zealand’s beautiful scenery in their films

I totally understand the diffrence between $14M and $1B, it is you that did not read my previous message above where I said that $1B is obviously a bigger investment than $14M.
As for what return we got from G8....we got nothing, zero, zip, nada.
and the reason for that is the stupid, obnoxious, ultra left, good for nothing protestors that ruined the whole thing.
see, what i'm trying to say is that the G8 was a huge opportunity for Canada to showcase it's culture, stability, economic success, diversity and natural beauty for the rest of the world.
esp. the most influencial nations of the world and their leaders including China, and India, not just one community and one sector (entertainment).
instead what happened was a complete embarrasment, a loss of face.
how can we boast about our stability when we have rioters and protestors running amok?
how can we boast about our democracy and liberty when we have spoilt, unionized and decadent police officers, whose primary job should be the prevent crime and catch real criminals, are given orders to arrest and abuse ordinary citizens (orders given, btw, by con man and rip off artist premier McGuinty and cushy politician's pet mayor David Miller)
how can we boast about our economic success when ultra left opposition parties like NDP complain about pocket change money spent on a water fountain and improving the beauty of the resort locations where the meetings were held?
instead we are happy to gloat about idiotic rich bollywood stars coming here for 3 hrs. doing a dog and pony show and make out with $14M of our tax money.
and the deluded desi community doesn't realize what has truly happened here.
what an embarrasment!

Where does the "deluded" desi community come into this ........ relation between Bollywood and tourism has been accepted by governments all over the world (latest New Zealand PM with Bolly stars) .... even Canadian Tourism commision agrees with this ..... here is an excerpt from their report
" The influence and reach of Bollywood cannot be overstated for the India market; CTC will be leveraging a variety of opportunities through a contract with Akshay Kumar, the leading Bollywood film star, who will be acting as the CTC’s Tourism Ambassador for India"
Full report ......

i was merely replying to the G8 issue raised by Ash above.
you chose to pick out one word out of the whole thing instead of focusing on the real issue.
fine, ok, desi community is not deluded, merely gloating over a pointless dog and pony show.
Akshay Kumar has been a paper Canadian resident for many years now.
sure he is a tourism represntative or whatever...who cares?
exactly how many millions has that brought for the Canadian tax payer?
the return on investment from G8 would have been hundreds of times more than this.
I'm not saying we shouldn't organize such dog and pony shows, sure go for it.
just don't make the tax payers pay for it.

The tourism industry has seen a constant decline in overseas tourists for a long time now and with things not looking too bright in US, the trend is going to continue.
India is an emerging market and unlike with you think there is a "sizeable" and "growing" population of potential tourists who can fill this viod. This investment of 12-14 million will go a long way in generating additional jobs and growth in tourism industry.
Bollywood and its relation to tourists from India has been accepted by most of countries so it makes sense for Canada to invest into promoting this event ....

DesiBabu70 > You are the one who talked about G8 not me. You are just seeing this issue as Harper & others and you support anything Harper says.
So, you agree that $1B we didn't got anything. Your friend Harper is always hanging with Akshay Kumar.
Anyhow, this issue has nothing to do with G8 or Harper or Liberal and you are the one bringing politicians on this issue (or is it that Harper didn't get chance to show his face at this event that is why you are angry?).
