and if really doing dog and pony shows is what we have to do to attract tourists then why so much anger and outrage against the G8/20 summits?
that was a huge opportunity for Canada to show off its diversity, beauty, economic success and culture in general.
the whole thing was botched by stupid ultra left wing career protesters that have no agenda other than to cause chaos.
the G8 summit gives more creditibility and currency to Ontario than Bollywood festival.
of course, it was considerably more expensive too ($1B vs. $14M) but its the same idea.
anyway, i personally don't think we are going to get any return on investment from this $14M...it's just gonna disappear into a black hole.
indian tourists have been coming and will continue coming as long as there are immigrants.

This statement says it all ...... going by your premise, Walmart should just build stores and wait for people to come and buy things .... after all people have to buy milk and bread !!!!!!! But they advertise ... they sponsor events and the idea is almost the same.
Same goes for tourism ...... if this event can increase the flow of tourists by 10%, it will be a job well done !!!!!!

When they are talking in billions... I guess questioning an expense of $10 million will not be appropriate....
I strongly feel that IIFA does boost tourism for any country they go to.....

I am not against IIFA events to promote tourism but If a country has to increase tourism they have to be lenient in issuing the Visa.
Will Canada Issue a Tourist Visa to Bachelors -- NO
Will Canada issue the tourist visa to young couples - NO
So how tourism is going to increase ! A big ?

Canada needs rich tourists who can spend in this country to boost the economy. You will hardly find anyone who is rich but also bachelor and young at the same time.

I don't understand why so many protests and riots for G8 but this is acceptable?
G8 has a much bigger return for Canada than this dog and pony show.
