Hope that his lost priorities would teach him a lesson.

Also annoying was the fact that Rob Ford went to welcome Shahrukh, for whom nobody in Canada gives a damn!

I also heard that McGuinty spend some Ontario tax payer's money in having IIFA in TO. Not sure how ON tax payer's money are associated with IIFA>

Such gimmicks are just way to woo brainless voters. Most of people wouldn't care about politician's kissing Bollywood actor's rear:down:

Guys this is the worst kind of governance in the western world..

agreed 101%
see, this is exactly what i talk about in my posts.
the liberal government in general is a greedy corrupt and wasteful one.
but Mcguinty is the top of the cream when it comes to corruption, cronyism and wasting tax payers money.
if you are a Canadian and esp. if you pay taxes I cannot understand howcome your blood doesn't boil when you see this guy's machinations.
the list of his lies, deceits, rip offs and fraud is long and despicable.

anyhow regarding this issue, the ontario govt. has "invested" $14M of our money into this IIFA thing as a way to buy desi votes.
he knows the public is mad and his approval rating is the worst ever of any Canadian politician (19%).
so he's spending our money to buy our votes.
i'm telling you guys : do not vote for this man and his party.

do you think such a dog and pony show would have happened under Mike Harris? Never!
Do you think John Tory would have wasted $14M on organizing a cheap tacky and garbage bollywood fest had he been elected in 2006? Never.

think about this guys and gals : this man has taken our hard earned money, ripped us off and enriched himself and his cronies and has used us like a free ATM machine.
i will honestly rather vote for Lalu Yadav, Jayalalitha, Paswan rather than vote for McGuinty.

Last month's federal elections was a good step forward. but that was only 50% of the job.
On Oct 6th it is time to complete the rest.

I agree with rest of your rantings except this statement. He has made a mess of the province, but I doubt if he has put taxpayer's money in his personal coffers.

If Canadian politicians are at par with their Indian counterparts when it comes to corruption, than I think it is time to pack your bags and move into some other less corrupt country. Luckily, that is not the case right now.

Jaylalita preferred over McGuinty?? , Well to each his own...

ok well that part about Laloo and Jayalalitha was a little exaggeration on my part :D

but everything else I believe to be true.
i have of course no direct evidence of whether Mcguinty has privately appropriated any public funds or not but there is certainly an indirect appropriation.
the fired health minister for the eHealth scandal was given a $750K farewell gift.
imho, that is personal enrichment - not for Mcguinty but certainly for his friend and colleague.
there were several other such personal favors done.

as for Mcguinty himself, with any luck he will be kicked out this time.
what happens to him after this, only time will tell, but i'm certain he will secure for himself a cushy, well paying job in some private sector corporation, enterprise or lobby group.
they all do.
because of their contacts and deep inside information about govt. matters and public finances, they are used by private corproations or lobby groups to further certain interests.

look at David Miller for example.
after royally ripping off Toronto for years and squandering tax payers money on stupid projects and enriching his cronies and unions, he took a nice cushy consulting job with the World Bank.
Doing what, you may ask.
well guess what - advising them on urban development.
exactly the kind of urban development that he did during his time, squandering away millions of $$.

i'm sure there is some nice cushy consulting job or board seat awaiting Mcguinty once he's done screwing the people of Ontario.

Keeping the politics aside for a minute, why do you think that the money spent on IIFA was a waste. Tourism from India is a growing market and connection between bollywood and tourism have been accepted by a number of countries.

UK for one comes to mind, they have actively been promoting tourism from India with the help of bollywood. They have Karan Johar as their brand ambasador.

FYI .... UK earns half a billion dollars from tourists coming from India, so if Canada needs to get a share of this growing pie, they have to take some bold steps and IIFA surely would have helped.

the real question is how much tourism $ will this specific type of event propaganda generate?
see, it is obvious that there will be a certain amount of tourism from India to Canada and UK simply because there is so much immigration.
family and friends coming to visit often, parents for sure visiting every year or every other year.
I'd speculate majority of tourism is not related to all this dog and pony show.
ask your friends and acquitances in India where they prefer to go for vacation.
Indians that live and work in India i.e. have no association abroad will go for tourism where the deals are cheap, flights are short, and lots to do.
as far as i know, indians go to Singapore, Hong Kong, Maldives, Malaysia and so on.
among the western countries first would be USA.

i seriosuly doubt this type of crass dog and pony show produces any real returns.

since we should agree that all the public money spent (oops invested) on this didn't belong to the desi community, maybe we should ask the rest of the Ontarians what they think the money should be spent on.
Do you think they would say yeah blow it away on Bollywood cinema stars (assuming they even know what it is).
or might they say spend it on health care or creating jobs or just reducing taxes.

is there any plan for the Mcguinty govt. to present the tax payers with any accounting for this money?
like how it was spent, how they plan to track the return of investment and so on?
or maybe it's just gonna disappear down a black hole?

Speculation ..... that is what i would call your statement about tourists from India. Surely there are a number of tourists looking for cheap places to travel But at the same time the number of people going to places like Europe or US has been rapidly increasing.

Infact in UK as per a study Indian tourists outspend tourists from US. As per this tourists from US spend about 712 pounds per person while as Indians spend 793. Even though US tourists outnumber Indians by 10 to 1, the tourists from India are growing at 33% while as from US the numbers are going down by 7%

So if you can read the writing on the wall ..... one would be gearing up from the Indian tourists and that is what Ontario is doing too !!!!!!

Maybe you haven't been to India for a long time ... but let me assure you that the Bollywood stars have not fallen on bad times and they surely will survive if this 14 million was not spent on this event.

This event was for the benefit of both the parties. Now Toronto cannot benefit from it what can one do .... as they say ..... "jab kismat ho g...u tow kya karega pandu" .....
