He said the majority of the students fare poorly at jobs and global institutions of higher education. "Thanks to the coaching classes today, the quality of students entering IITs has gone lower and lower," Murthy said, receiving a thundering applause from his audience.

Its interesting as this is coming from NRN. I am not from iIT, so cant comment. Others familiar with IITs, please post.
He is right, IITians fair not so well in client facing jobs. I happen to manage a crew of IITians , they were good problem solvers but when it came to presenting and projecting in front of client or higher management, they faltered. I had to cover for them all the time.
His eyes are opened now !! I am not surprised. He was always a slow learner and stupid policy maker which only revolved around earning dollers. For years he brought IITians on his rolls to impress foreign clients. Now those nerds in his organisation are hurting him because market is more competitive and client has started taking personal interviews and pick the team members (earlier only resume were considered). Gone are the days when head swaying wonky speckos were given things to handle. Honeymoon is over !
He made stupid policy of only considering those candidates who got above 70 percent in graduation. That shows his mentality. Stats and personal experience ;-) shows that being backbencher makes you better manager because you see the big picture all the time ;-)))) but IITian like Narayanan will never understand that.
Yes its correct , nobody cares about IITians anymore !! he cares because he is hurt and proved wrong.
