Hi,

I got my PR for Canada, but here's the problem. When I applied for PR for me and my family, it was me, my wife and my 2 yr old daughter. However, by the time the processing got done and I got my PR, I was blessed with a baby boy. If I need to get a PR for my lil one as well, it is going to take some more time and money which I don't have (especially the money part).

This is what I am thinking of doing, but wanted to know if this is doable. I intend to travel alone to Canada and save my PR (I am the primary applicant) and let my wife's and daughter's PR expire. Post finding a job, I intend to apply the PR for everyone including my son this time or get them as dependents . Is this doable or will the embassy say that I should have disclosed about my son's information.

My understanding, because I am allowing the previous PRs of my wife and daughter to expire, and when I apply again, it will be a fresh application, it should not be an issue. Correct me if my understanding is wrong because I don't want to spoil my chances.

Thanks for all the help. Based on the response, I will be deciding if I should move to Canada or not.

Regards!
R

You all should land in Canada and then your family can go back. This way your wife and daughter will gain another 3 years before their PR will set to expires. During visit you may chose to bring your son on visitor visa (not sure) or leave behind with parents/relatives for few days. As soon as you land, you can apply for son's PR. During the process your family can wait in native land.

Ideally you should not let your wife/daughter's PR expire. If you see cost of reapplying will be almost same as their return ticket, may be bit less, but the cost of hassle is a lot. In long run few thousand dollars matters lesser than we think at point of time.

@ashedfc - that is not a possibility for now, because I will have to arrange for additional funds (something I don't currently have)

@san-hugo - So, in that case, it might help to see if I can come to Canada early and try and see if I can find a job to fund my wife's and my daughter's trip to and fro before their PR expires.

But more importantly, should I be worried about not disclosing my second child's information. I will never try to bring him in illegally, but just worried that when I apply for their PR the second time, I will be asked why I did not give this information the first time. Do you see that as a possibility. If yes, what could the repercussion of this be?

How much is the fee?

What are you going to survive on if you do not have enough funds to support you until you find a job? Do you need to recertify to find a job in your field? Even finding the low end jobs with least pay require time and effort and supporting a family on that would be very tough.

@rajcanada - Its just not the fee. We will also need to show some financial deposits here. Between, I will have some money to survive for a month or two after I come to Canada but do not want to bring my family until I have a decent job. Between, what do you mean by "do you need to recertify to find a job in your field?" I am coming there with a PR, not really sure what you mean?

@ashedfc - i agree to that, but it brings back the main problem of disclosing my family information. If I do this, I will have to return all my current PRs and they will be cancelled and reapplied. Its kind of catch 22 situation.

tRahul, you may come alone and start to look for the job and call your family later before expiry of visa but by that time you would have consumed the landing fund you have collected now. so will land into another tricky situation. I hope not if you get the job.

Here are few more suggestions :

1. Even before landing, You may chose to put up an application to CIC to add your son to your PR as dependent, return your current Visa, and wait for the approval. This may invite additional fee, admin expenses etc. Call CIC and find out. This option will buy you some time.

2. TRP - Temporary residence permit - You can apply for the TRP for your son right away and wait for the approval to come through. If it is causing delay then chose to land few days before visa expiry as suggested earlier.

Also after you land , there will be some residency obligations you need to clear before you can sponser any of your dependent. so be well read about that part.

I would say you should call CIC and find out the options you have.

I hope your son's passport is ready !! ?? !!
