No, I am a happy Canadian from years ago.

What I was stating is as follows:

1. When your PR is approved, your passport will be affixed with a visa stamp.
2. That visa is a single entry with 1 year validity from the time of medical exam.
3. The visa allows you to leave your home country if the home country requires an emigration check.
4. The visa also allows you to enter Canada ONLY for the purpose of landing.
5. Once the landing process is done, the visa automatically expires. No action is required by anyone to make it expire.
6. This visa cannot be extended, renewed or otherwise changed. If you let it expire and did not land, you have to apply for PR all over.
7. Once landed, you will be processed for a PR card that will arrive several days later.
8. The PR card now is your valid travel document.
9. You cannot enter Canada on this single entry visa for any other purpose other than to complete landing formalities at the port of entry.
