Hello CDs,
A)
While applying for visitor visa for the first time to Canada from India, should the applicant(my parents) have to mention the validity of visa they want?
Is it usually 6 months for first time visitors (by default) in all cases?
Can the applicant request for validity of visa to be 1 year or more?
In the second time, the visa is granted for 5 years in most cases..But is it possible for a year in the first time visitor visa request?
B)
While landing, can the visitor request the officer at port of entry to put the duration of stay for 1 year. Is it only 6 months max. in both US and Canada?
Many Thanks!
A) Sure. Yes you can ask for two years or the maximum period that they will allow. Five for business. If my memory serves me right.
Yes you will only be given six months at the P.O.E. (Port of Entry)
Then you have to renew around the time of the expiry of the first issue. (30 days prior to)
You want to know why? It is a reciprocal agreement. ONLY SIX MONTHS on arrival. Also Canada is generous.
If you call for the piper, you pay for the piper. Pay them what they ask for.
B) You have the answer in the above.
Hope this helps.
Freddie.
