My son goes to Grade 3 in French Immersion programme. I would like to know from parents whose children also go to French Immersion school as to how they help their kids with French.
Are you taking the help of a French Tutor?

Thanks,

My son is in Gr. II now, but back in sharjah, he studied 2 years french and he loved french and excelled in french. Do you think, I can still take his admission in french immersion (half french and half English) in Gr III? PEEL board is giving french immersion if am not mistaken.

My son has five belts of karate too. Is there any karate classes free close to kipling-dixon intersection?

any help/suggestion is appreciated.

My daughter is in Grade 4 French Immersion. She manages without any tutions. Neither my husband and I are able to help her. But I find the system is designed for children whose parents who do not need to know french so its okay. The school provides a lot of strategies as to how non-french background parents can help the children with their studies by providing time, space, encouragement and follow up on the homework. We have decided to leave her in French Immersion as long as she can manage to do relatively well by herself. If and when she cannot cope we will shift her to English. The learning in the meanwhile is priceless.

My son is in grade 2 FI. We bring some French books from the library and read to him. My wife knows some French. Otherwise there is no need for a tutor. I would agree with fass2000.

What are the advantages/disadvantages of French Immersion over English medium or English medium with Core French?

Advantage of French Immersion over English Medium:
-There are many advantages of knowing more than one language (mental/ social/cultural)
-Bilinguilism(F/E) increases job opportunities in Canada

What is core french? If you mean French shools I think that is limited to children whose families are french speaking in Toronto. Not sure about that.

Core French is when French is taught as a subject, in Peel it is grade 4 to 8, 40 minutes a day; Waterloo it is grade 1 to 9; Toronto it is grade 1 to 4, 20 minutes a day and grade 5 to 8, 30 minutes a day.
