I need CD s opinion on this ...
My wife is expecting and wish her parents to be here during / post delivery ..... Wondering what reason should we provide for the visit as I have read conflicting results on the exact reason (delivery) when it is provided ... The facts are as under ..
Last time , my wife developed PPD (post partum depression) and was attended by a pubic nurse and lady visiting her for at least 4-6 months later ....It is documented and they say that next time around its more likely to re occur .
One of the attending organizations has given us a letter also to this effect and I expect to take one from her current doctor recommending family members to be around .......
Likewise people are also advising NOT to provide the actual reason ie; delivery & post partum care since the Visa can be denied as it might lead to a nanny job being lost here in Canada ....
What s your opinion folks - should we provide the exact reason for visit or simply state normal sight seeing as a reason ?
We have never had any one visit us prior to this ??? ...

How about a letter that says you are requesting a positive consideration of your in-laws visa application as they wish to visit your family and stay with you for up to 6 months. And you are willing and able to support them during their stay. If you'd like you can state you are a law abiding Cdn citizen or PR (as it may apply to you) living at <insert your address>.
In the past, that's all I've done - no NOAs, no money info, no bank statements, no employment letters, nothing. Just one piece of professional sounding letter.
I look at these invitation letters as a cover letter (for resumes). The more fluff, the higher the scrutiny. Keep it simple for a confident approach. Good luck.

Fido:
Congratulations!
These days it is so easy to sponser people (especially parents / in laws) for a visit and hence I would not worry too much about the decision.
Since the economic boom started in India and tricked down to the Canadian embassy officials around mid 2008, I have information that Canadian officials are not very stringent these days.
however a medical test would be required and the officials are not too picky about the results.
So I would suggest that you can go with whatever option that you like (Child birth / casual visit). Canadian officials are not a bit concerned that a nanny's job would be at stake.
But I would also request you to get a letter from your MP and attach it with your application. In the unlikely event that the visa is rejected the first time, the MP will call the embassy officials and blast them for not issuing a visa to the in laws of his constituency resident (provided the application did not have any hiccup like medical reasons and the like).

I am a Gents and not a Ladies.
Thanks Folks for your opinion .
Last time around we did not invite any one from India and as a result my wife suffered .... One important reason for PPD is being so distant from your family & relatives .... To save her the ordeal this time around , basing it on medical advice we are thinking of calling them over ...
I was originally thinking of attaching the following letters ( if I decide to go the actual reason way ) :
a. Letter from the Public organization who sent a nurse and a community member for around 6 months last time .
b. Letter from the nurse who used to superrvise her condition .
c. Letter from her present doctor
d. As rightly observed by TK , a letter from the MP ....
I was also thinking of emaphasizing the fact that the first time we did not invite anyone and it is basically to avoid a recurrence we intend to this time around .
I am still debating as most of the people I have discussed this with have discouraged me from citing actual reason ... will decide in due course of time ...

I have invited my parents for the same reason in early 2012. We did not cited pregnancy as reason for inviting them. I sent them invitation letter to visit us in Toronto. I have submitted bank statement and offer letter from employer. My parents submitted their investment details. They got the 10 year multiple-entry visa within 10 working days.
Visa process is pretty simple and straight forward. Reason of visit is not deciding factor.
Fido,
In case your wife requires a qualified nurse , the above reasons may not be valid for calling your in-laws who may not be medical experts to cover for a nurse/doctor. The visa officer will sight this easily. He will open the application expecting to stamp a 'visitor' visa not that of caretakers.
Keep the reason simple - 'to meet Daughter and her family. ' and ask your in-laws to say same when asked. I think you should concentrate more on showing their strong ties to India and intent to retun.
For sure, those letters mentioned in a,b, c can be used to secure MPs letter. Though in my view in case you get MPs letter, Then your reason will be based on its contents.
Also you might be expecting your in-laws to stay for 6 months, but there are cases when pps are stamped at airport with return dates in 3 months etc. To cover that kind a situation, apply for the mutli entry visa at outset and in case you want to extend when they are here, apply for extension of stay. That way they can stay here longer in implied status. but that is later. !
All the best and congratulations !
Thank You so very much Folks - seenimesh , san hugo , TK & Dimple 2001 ..... I shall state reason for visit as meeting daughter and family and will now focus on preparing the back ground documents viz bank statements , NOA s , their investment details as well as ties to India .......
