My accord seems to have an electrical / switchbox fault. Does anyone know of a reliable Honda workshop / mechanic that they've used for some time? I hate to go to the dealership for any repairs..

I am working from your posting to provide you with a decent response.
Your date of entry into CD is 2006. Based on that your Vehicle, HONDA, is also 7+ years old. After 5 years, you are out of luck and your search for a skilled HONDA Mechanic stands to reason.
Here are the basic facts from the Honda Repairs statistics on switchboxes.:
They are fabricated out of Bakelite P.C.Board. Due to the generation of heat in the AC Circuit Breaker during the summers and the Heat generation during the winter usage of Rear Window defogger and also the fan for heat, the PC Board slowly heats up and deteriorates and in some cases disintegrates into its basic components and burns out. If it does not fall out, the carbon within, shorts the circuit board and in some cases the breakers too.
You might be experiencing this problem currently and it is natural, which is the cutting in and out of the circuits.
The mechanic doesnot work for less than $90/Hr.
The cost of the NEW Board if available will be about $180, which you can find and verify. It calls for couple of Phone calls. They all pad it up and bring it upto $250 or so. Used ones are not reliable.
That will take you now to $450 + taxes. You will get another THREE years out of it.
All of these are start of ensuing problems with the vehicle. Most of the Mechanics will get you out of their premises in a hurry and see you onto the highway. They also know that there are more problems there in the vehicle. They also know that you will come back to them after the first fix. They know the tricks of the trade. You being a novice, will fall for it.
If you know how to fix it all by your self, here is a GREAT FIX. It is called a can of GLYPTAL cost about $18 + Taxes. Under 20 bucks. That is only good if the board in the system is not cooked. Also you must know how to go about it.
Not knowing how far out into the Great Blue Yonder (BLUE SKY) you are T(w)inkling, it becomes difficult to suggest a swindler to you. Also I am tinkling not too far from you out into the same space. Welcome to the (GTA) Galaxy of Toronto Area.
I am sure you will find your fixer upper soon. Hope the hole he makes won't be too big.

The car is 6 years old so your guess was quite close!
I do live in in GTA, so that was a right guess as well.. :-)
Thanks to another member on the forum as well who picked up the phone last night and called me with an alternate solution.

Though I have not been to him for a couple of years but Fernando of Peel Auto Centre ( Clarence - Kennedy ) Brampton was / is a guy I trust for car repair ..Not only is he polite he has good diagnostic skills and my experience has been resolves the issue rather than con you ...
I had once tried one AM Repair near / or Advanced Blvd Brampton and though he claimed to be an ex Honda mechanic , I never went back to him again ...

+ 1 to Fernando.
Had been to him on the advice of Fido and found him to be very polite and softspoken and he charged only for the work that he did. However this was in March 2011.
Avoid the Srilankans in Mississauga (Near Webb drive). Does not do a good job though he charges cash.

I would recommend Carlos Batista from CB Automotive Toronto. I was very happy to find a good mechanic like him.
When a Honda starts to ask for a repair, rare though and are mostly electricals, time to sell it and get another one...
