Hi,
I am an Indian Citizen with Indian Passport, currently living in Toronto. I need to apply for a new PIO for our new born baby.

Is it required to submit parents' (our) original passport along with the baby's passport for baby's PIO application?Does the BLS/Consulate not accept notarized copy of parents' Passport?

Thank You,
Mukesh N

These are the requirements to obtain a P.I.O. from them.

Just to make sure that your better half is not an Indian Citizen, they also want to see her original Passport too.

You will get all of them back, except the copies.

Not to worry...

FH.
After you obtain the PIO, get an endorsement into the Baby's PP.

Full House,

I wanted to keep my passport for Canada Visa stamping and Language Tests Exam Identification.

Was wondering if anyone had a similar case and the if there was a workaround with BLS/Consulate accepting copy of parents' passport, instead of the original.

Thank You,
MukeshN.

Mukesh,

I have applied for my daughter' PIO in March 2013 at Scarborough BLS Location. Officer asked me to submit original PPs. I told them that I need to go to USA and cannot submit PP. I also spoke to manager. They checked original passport (parents and daughter). They took copy of parents pp and I also submitted notarised copy of daughter's pp. Officer also noted that original have been verified on the photocopy. Just speak to officer and they can accommodate your request.

I found that BLS staff to be untrained and unprofessional but sometime, surprisingly, they understand and co-operate.

There are various reasons that YOU would like to hold onto your Passports. And most of the time they oblige. (In fact they should not even ask that you to part with it.)

BUT BUT, there are always reasons that they want to the see the original Passports and its contents. One reason is to check to see if you are a Landed Immigrant or on work permit etc., etc., So also your spouses. There is a system and a madness to it. I am 'learning' to live with it.

I will not tell you all of the other reasons, because you don't want to know all of them.

FH.

Thanks Full House & Seenimesh.

Full House,

Could you please explain what you meant by get an endorsement into the Baby's PP?

Also, the BLS website lists two forms - PIO New Booklet Forms and PIO Endorsement Form, what is the difference?

I need to understand, before I understand which form I need to fill for my baby.

Thank You,
Mukesh.

Here is a link to the endorsement provided by ImmiHelp. It is in a pictorial form. They endorse the Passport details into the PIO Passport. (Card)
