Has anyone tried this for their parents yet:

Wonder if there are some activities / entertainment links in the package above
Also, there is lots of material on Service Canada websites that you can order for them to read and go through, to get familiar with a new Canadian culture.

I arrange a get together with friends whose parents are here ~ twice a month. Just for the seniors to get a chance to mingle.

Good points AshwaniG & G13 ... We do have an infant & to keep them occupied ... as well as getting together with friends-with-parents-here is also a welcome idea ....
You know some times in the absence of the above mentioned very good suggestions , parents and seniors may feel very lonely and bored once we are at office and may long to return ...
Why not try to provide them best that Canada has to offer for them and then let them decide .... Thanks Folks ... your posts are highly appreciated !! ..
Any new ideas / experiences are more than welcome.

Fido.
Each Senior like other folks in various age groups, has his individual/unique likes and comfort-level practices; there is no one-size fits all.
Like I had to get Hindi TV channels for my wife. But for me, no serials and movies. I like to spend time on Internet, news channels like Times of India etc. I am a loner, go for walks when weather is not hostile, do some work to keep the house clean...
Please ask/talk to your Parents/observe their "likes" and act accordingly.

Many
Volunteering would be a very good way for them to give back to the society that had welcomed both them and you.
They could volunteer at the temple, food bank, Gurudhwara and the like. This will also help them to kill time and also appreciate time management.
They could go with the infant to a drop in centre and spend more time with their grandchild. Drop in centres is a great place to meet other elders. (I am telling this as both your parents know English, which is a rarity among desi seniors in Canada)

I am a Gents and not a Ladies.
I have come across many desi families in Canada / USA bring their elders to babysit / take care of the young children. This is abuse. This is not the time at that age to run after little children (grand kids). Seniors have done their duty in the past. Let them live peacefully.
