Its a noble idea and has been presented several times by several people, but not much has come of it. And for many valid reasons. First and foremost, its not practical. People (or at least the majority) who contribute to Canadiandesi aren't exactly VP's or CEO's in big corporations, we're just normal people doing jobs too. Most seniors aren't in a capacity to hire newly landed desis themselves.
And even if someone could, I don't agree with the idea of desis giving jobs to desis just because they're desis. If I'm hiring someone, I would want to make sure that I'm getting the best person for the money I'm paying, period! If I can get a local candidate who I feel is more qualified to do the job, then I will certainly hire him/her. Its just the nature of business.
What I can however do is post the requirement on CanadianDesi alongwith wherever else I usually post it. And certainly not eliminate desis on the "no canadian experience" premise. Everyone should go through the same interview process and the best candidate finally would get the job.
If I notice any openings in the company I work for, I do post them here. And I've noticed others doing that too, I'm sure that number will go up steadily. Also we can advise prospective immigrants of the working conditions and ground realities here, give tips on resume formatting and other job-hunting info (which I think we've done quite well). We're also slowly building focus groups for professsionals to meet and interact with their kind. Chandresh has called a meeting for Finance Professionals recently.
But beyond that, hiring new immigrants just to give them Canadian experience seems highly impractical, it would be really difficult for someone working full-time to organize and manage something like that. Please do bear in mind that along with all the good work members do here, they're also trying to enjoy the super-short summer with their families.
