Recent accidents .....

*Five killed as Mumbai-Dehradun Express catches fire in Thane
* Nanded-Bangalore express catches fire in Andhra, 26 killed
* Forty-five passengers killed in blaze after fuel tank caught alight on road between Bengaluru and Hyderabad

I will be scared to travel locally during my next visit to India.

Gurram,
Not really.
you should understand that India is a very populated country and many people travel. Travel deaths per capita is at an all time low.
As a rich person, what you can do is avoid travelling in AC compartments or the compartment just next to the AC compartment and you will be fine.
Also avoid Volvo bus travel as 2 Volvo buses have got fire recently.
Just travel smart !

Humorous TK as always!
Yup totally agreed..as a rich person you should avoid travelling in taxi but get a tanga or Rikshaw, walking could be good alternative as long as there is no traffic but in that case watch out for petty thieves.
Also always look left then right and again left and again right...before crossing the road..
Just travel smart!

But what a post, it is like saying: I will not walk on community sidewalks because there are many cases of slip and fall and people are getting injured.

Actually what you have pointed is ironically true @ times ..

Being rich in India is many times a liability as well as a security issue ..I would refrain from buying flashy cars or have an upscale life style in order to avoid attention when in India ..

Noticed here on the day after the ice storm - people were actually avoiding the community sidewalk and walking on the road ..I did that too as walking on the sidewalk was extremely risky ..

Coming back to travel in India .... I think road & traffic conditions deteriorate in India as traffic sense is so very low .. a good example ..truck & bus drivers ..... road sense and value for life is deplorable in India.

It's not rich, actually middle class and upper middle class who are at more risk..we, Canadians come in lower middle class category...;)

When you got to go you got to go ....
Travelling is always a risk no matter where you travel. In India, Trains are still safer mode of travel than Roads, specially when going long distance. As a low to middle class canadian (aka upper middle class Indian) prefer air travel.

Even then, I would still prefer Trains over the private vehicle for commuting between the States. Trains are still safer by and large.

These incidents don't/won't deter me from travelling via. the great Indian Railways.
