We are often very enthusiastic to embrace the success of people of Indian Origin when they achieve something significant.
Sometimes we think that our cultural background and non-Canadian / non-American credentials are coming on the way and we try to adopt to what can help us lead to the success.
Initially when I heard the name of Tulsi, I thought she must be an Indian Origin person either a child of inter-race marriage or she be married to an American.
However while reading a recent news article, I came to know that she actually doesn't have any Indian Connection. She is a practicing Hindu, completely vegetarian and so proud of being a Hindu that she became the first person to took oath of office at Congress on her Personnel Bhagavad Geeta.
Tulsi Gabbard was born in Leloaloa, American Samoa, the fourth of five children of Mike Gabbard and Carol Porter Gabbard. Her family moved to Hawaii in 1983 when Tulsi was two. Tulsi grew up in a multicultural, multi-religious household. Her father is of Samoan/European heritage and is a practicing Catholic who is a lector at his church, but also enjoys practicing mantra meditation, including kirtan. Her mother is white and a practicing Hindu. Tulsi fully embraced Hinduism as a teenager.
It is indeed inspiring.

Hurat Honani Murat!
I did not get it, adopting Hinduism by a foreigner is inspiring , how so?
The inspiring part is her open acceptance to what she believes. There should many more Indian Origin Congressmen, but none of them displayed the kind of love in what she believes.

Who actually governs what the others are SUPPOSED TO practice? It's entirely a private matter, in my opinion at least.
Who is original or not? I don't think one needs to publicly show or appear to be practising his/her faith in order to be religious.

Not at all inspiring if religion is the angle. In case she fought other odds to reach where she is , lesser known, but will be inspiring for sure. She is daughter of a Senator and symbol of dynasty politics. by that logic praising Tulsi is same as praising Akhilesh Yadav .
Actually Her Mother embraced hinduism so did she, if somebody is needed to be praised on religion pretext, her mother deserves an 'arti' by a hindu who feels proud of such stuff. Btw Hindus traditionally do not promote conversion like muslims or christians do, so having a proud feeling of that sort is paying ignorance to own religion.
and By this logic, muslims must be taking lot of inspirations from Michael Mohammed Jackson, peace be upon him.
