Hi,
I'm currently in India and have received a job offer from a company in Canada. The Company has applied and ontained an LMO for my visa application. But the LMO is valid only for 2 years. So, my work permit will also be valid for only two years.
The company HR mentioned that I'll be eligible to apply for a PR after a year and I would get the PR within another year before my work permit expires.
I wanted to check with this group whether that's usually true - i.e. getting the PR within a year.
Thanks!
Dude,
Are you in IT/ Finance or teaching field?
Please reply.
Peace by Murali

FH,
Thanks for the detailed reply. In case I do need to apply for the Temp work permit extension 3 months prior to expiry (as it seems likely) would I need a new LMO (I have currently applied under LMO). I have checked that my job falls under NOC skill type 0.
Thanks,
Baderish.
You are entering on a Temporary Resident Visa with an LMO from the Citizenship and Immigration Canada. Your employer obtained it once for themselves and you. Halfway through the term, you are applying for a Permanent Resident Visa with an years' experience under your belt. The Company knows that and so does the CIC.
Since your application is in PROCESS and with a file number in tow, you can always request and apply for a BRIDGING Visa, paying the fees and completing the due formalities towards the end of the Second Year. That is the NEW and current Process. I am sure they will brief you at that time of PR application. Also work on it and try to get to know more about it after the completion of the first year.
It is irksome. It happens due to the tightness in the local budget and shortness in personnel plus the shuffling that takes place with the paper and the loading of materials into the computers.
The Technology is advancing very fast and is improving with leaps and bounds and currently with OCR systems adopted, which you know already, things might get speeded up as we speak about it, i.e., the time lines that we are talking about might get shrunk considerably.
So, hope for the best, which means that you don't have to go through the extra step and associated paper work and the Bridging Visa.
Hope this clarifies the point raised. Just the same be prepared for the exigencies.
FH.
Thanks FH.
