TK,
I don't know where the Racism factor came into being. We all gave you instances, where we experienced first hand the 'special needs' people employed at Staples, Wal-Mart, Rogers, to name a few.
Wherever you see human beings in the world the basic prejudice against their own ilk does always prevail. You will see that in every community and group. Some things you can't change. But, laws do, if this prejudice is in your face and visible.
What's your point exactly? I see people with 'special needs' get more positive empathy and attention here than in India where they are normally being labelled as 'Paagal'.
I didn't know you had a 'foot-note' of racism to this whole affair/your experience.
The racism is in your mind.
You will always find what you are looking for. You saw an act of kindness somewhere - and immediately decided to gloat how it is happening in my country and not Canada.
You may have seen a million such acts in Canada - and they may never hav registered - because that was not what you wanted to see or find.

In Indian context, Racism is actually engraved into the minds when you are even a child. That is part and parcel of our 'rich' culture. If you call yourself a Hindu/Sikh or muslim , or calling self a brahmin, jat or shia, you are actually calling yourself a racist, at times proudly !

Funny !
I am person who is straight forward. I call a spade a spade. Many in this forum itself know about it.
I would not wilfully tell something wrong, just for the sake of it.
I had been in Canada for almost 9 years. Never have I seen the kind of kindness, non-racism as I have seen in India. Yes. Racism might be there but not to the extent to what is practiced in India.
To give an example, my employer in Canada, used to treat white's differently and the immigrants differently. To the whites, he will give overtime, should they be expected to stay after 5:30 pm and to the immigrant, they are supposed to get the job done and leave.
White's resigning will get employment certificate whereas the immigrant will get scowls.
In India, in the last 3 years that I have been working, I have never experience racism not seen it. I work with labourers who respect me and I / my collegues respect them. No one is jealous of me despite the known fact I earn 100 times more than what the labourers earn. India has changed.
I think it will take much time for you guys to realize that Canada requires you for your work and taxes rather than to live side by side as a Canadian. Just go through redflagdeals.com. Most of the posters accuse immigrants of coming from desert just for the healthcare and welfare and we Desi's know that our property worth in India is in crores and that we donot appriciate Canada's lousy healthcare, old age homes etc..
Anyways, dream on... That is what dreams are made of .
Murali
