Hi Guys,

A friend of mine who visited Vancouver last month told me that there is a "lot" of racism in Vancouver. He said that a couple of times, goras shouted racist taunts at him while walking on the street? Can members living in Vancouver confirm? I was in TO a few months ago and didn't feel any racism there.

What i feel that your friend might have entered gora dominated area. Otherwise vacouver is dominated by Indian... Rather what i have heard that gora's are petrified by our punjabi gangs....

weird, I have lived in vancouver for about 2 years - been around - never felt anything like it. There must have been somekind of communication started from ur friend or something..

that does not sound like vancouver or any other city in canada for that matter.

even if itwas, could have been some school kids...

I live in fraser a totally desi area...and take the bus to downtown...very rarely i have seen some stupid desi say some racist comment like " No english" and then laugh at you in the face....
but considering the fact that half of vancouver ....sorry..more than half of vancouver is inhabited by druggies,junkies and desi gangs...this case is possible..
BTW a lot of desi punjabi gangs here in van...a gora would think twice b4 confronting a desi..

Racism in Vancouver? Not in the 6 years I have been here. And I live in a predominantly gora area - North Vancouver.

I believe Vancouver is the most liberal city I have visited/lived in (and I have been around quite a bit!). Any racism is usually hidden (latent) cause most of the gora's don't have the testicles to mess with Indians!

I haven't heard any such thing from people in Vancouver but it may be a chance with your friend so don't make it as a feeling just try once more
