If i can be of any help regarding info, I will be happy to give my two bit. Till then..
No one from the IT side will ever be interested in knowing the situation in India and only give contradictory info from their side. So useless to give your 2 bits.
I know that Mumbai and Delhi are overpriced cities and as well as the salary is more. I have heard stories of how many Mumbai people will leave after work for drinks and visit to Cabret where they will throw Rs 500 notes at the dancer.
I can speak for Cochin / Chennai.
Rent is cheap in Cochin and a bit costly in Chennai. Apart from that most services are resonable. Bu fare is cheap. Pulses / grains are cheap. Water / Hydro is cheap. Amma canteen is there. Schools s(Depends on school) is cheap. Gas is cheap. Cost of maintaining a Maruthi is cheap. Insurance is cheap. I pay Rs. 8000 / year for comprehensive. I service my Maruthi once a year for Rs 8000 ( Full cleaning / polish included). Eating out is ok depending on the restaurant.

I am a Gents and not a Ladies.
tamilkuravan- chennai is a good place to live, it is reasonably priced for sure, but not all people from mumbai visit cabarets, that is not the point anyways.. we are talking about things changing in India, which they have. You mentioned IT- there are dime a dozen IT professionals in India, and having said that IT is a huge industry, so it depends on which field you are. Depending on that field one can decide whether to be in India or not. I think one can get fabulous salaries as an IT professional in Europe. But more on that one some other forum.

I agree now is the time to move.. there are pros n cons every where in the world and it depends on what one wants....besides all that glitters is not gold, there are problems here as well, though they often go unreported...
There is start up boom going in India , Go join the brigade...
few obvious facts -Life quality will be low, air will be populated, adulterated milk, fabricated vegetables, heat where car ac will seek water and attitude of people might numb your senses at times. Ignore that and you will have eventful life. Have a ball !
I moved back to India last year (though technically I had never moved my family to Canada), food adulteration is not a problem here. Go for organic vegetables, TATA dals, have ultrasonic veggie wash machine at home. Milk go for Tetrapacks, I don't agree about car either. There is more variety of models of cars available and even good brands which are not in Canada.
Quality of life it depends, I find it better here in India specially socializing part.
Yes, there is air pollution in bigger cities. But if you go for cities like Chandigarh/Dehradoon then air quality is way better.
San-hugo is right on target about attitude of people, after living in Canada for close to 4-5 yrs I find it difficult to adjust to this.
