Taxes are legal corruption and bribes are illegal corruption. If the gov. Charges you exhorbitant taxes and then wastes billions of dollars on various scandals like gas plant scandals, E-Health scandals etc etc..its nothing but corruption.

Do you get to decide, how your taxes are spent ? Some politicians with their fat salaries get to decide how your hard earned dollars and taxes are wasted on pet projects, vested interests, political lobbyist, rich businesses and corporations.

A 5 % bribe you pay, which helps you directly is better than a 10 % tax you pay which is squandered by corrupt politicians and bureaucrats. Your welfare is the last thing on the mind of tax collectors..and the inefficiency and wastage of your tax dollars is amazing.

Frog in the well : hmmmmn niceeee

Bite the Dust man.. So as per you There are so many happy poor in the world . Isnt it ?? and that because of their choice ?? C'mon everyone wants to make money and be happy, secure , comfortable - AND THAT IS THE FACT -

We are all here to make money... and if someone compromise being poor and satisfied its just that they are tired and give up fighting.

My Choice: I've been poor and miserable, I've been rich and miserable. Rich and miserable is better.

How do you know, what everyone wants ? Are you everyone ?

What you are saying is just your arbitray opinion, NOT a fact. Just because you are equating money with happiness doesn't mean , we are all here to make money..only some people like you are.

I know lot of rich people, who have given away all their money to charity or never wanted any inheritance from their rich and wealthy families, and are busy doing social work, working for NGO's etc...so NO we are not all here to make money..some have a much bigger purpose in life, which narrow minded people like you won't understand.

You think Mother Teresa was here to make money ? There are hundreds and thousands of people like her everywhere, they are just not as famous or recognised like her.

I know well qualified and educated doctors, who could have minted millions with private practice and looting patients, but they chose to go to remote villages and actually help and service poor people for FREE, so NO , they are NOT all here to make money !

Being poor and satisfied is NOT a compromise as you foolishly put, its called Contentment and being happy with what you have..its got nothing to do with being tired and giving up.

Poor and rich is just a relative concept, even if you are rich there is always going to be someone richer than you, so you are poor in comparison to them. So does that mean you are tired and have given up fighting..lol..bcoz you don't have what they have and are poor ?

Nicely put, Adamji.
With the above post, I think you will soom become Sri Sri ravishankar ji !!

Jokes apart, in the present world, it all depends on people and the way that they were brought up.
People who are selfless in this world may form just around .1 % of the Indian population or much less.
The majority wants to mint money and think that happiness is from that.

In India, options are very less. You have to save and keep apart for your future as you know that you have to pay for your children's higher education, your retirement and medical. In Canada, you can afford to be a bit more slack but there are no poor people (in indian context there).

If you take me personally, I was at the bottom rung in Canada so I never gave alms in Canada. However when I am in India, it pains my heart to see poor people here, cancer patients etc.. Luckily I am in Kerala, a blesses state where there are no much poor people but when I go to TN, I see many many poor people in the sides of the road. In India, you have the urge to contribute to charity much more than in Canada.

here are few tips on properties to invest :

I feel Caledon is good to invest now... in 2-3 yrs, you can make $100 k. :)

People who are above 55+ can invest in Florida. There is special place in Florida for seniors whereby you can buy 2bhk for $20-25 K. maintenance is $300-350 pm and property tax is low approx. 2 %. the place is 3-4 miles from beach. :)

Thanks hw36. Unfortunately, I have already missed the boat. It will be an achievement for me if I am still able to buy a decent independent house for my own use in this expensive market. Besides, I am in BC, so managing something back East from here would be next to impossible.

Thanks again.

Hw36,

You're something, you know? I mean in a positive way.

Right now, my focus is to sell my depreciated Townhouse (loss) asap. and buy an independent house. This is a challenge in itself. I will think about investing once I settle down with my present endeavors.

Will have to think about it though. Thanks for the moral boost.

Get your facts straight - There s no thing as 'legal corruption' ... Corruption is always illegal ... period.... Don't try to come with your own definitions.

When you agree to pay taxes , it is legal , when the Govt. loses money on projects , that is also legal ... if they lose money on pipelines / scandals , heads roll off ... Dalton Mc Guinty for eg.... and some times lose the election also ... It is mis management not corruption.

Corruption on the other hand is a culture which spreads to the roots for eg law , order and justice besides services ... Nobody asks you for a tax for getting the guilty off the hook but with corruption you can easily do it ..... That my friend is the main difference and hence its a fallacy to equate corruption with taxes.

Where can I get that Florida property for 25 k . How much can I sell it for in about 5 yrs time ?

Can I rent it out during that time ? What are the tax , legal and technicalities for Canadian's buying property in US , especially Florida ?

Are you talking about houses in Caledon..I might go for a pre construction semi-detached or detached and then flip it..but I will need some MTG from the bank, along with my down payment.

But Florida I can buy in cash if its in the 25 K range..maybe more than one.
