Thank you to all. Sorry to reply later as BC time is different.
If I start on all the parental guidance and the key points which played part in daughters education, I will have to write a complete book. All has not been rosy there are ups and downs and that is what makes life so interesting. I can only mention a few key factors :
- I think the number one factor has to be the land of opportunities: CANADA. We came in at the right time to the right country. If the kids are bright and intelligent the opportunities are galore. My number 3 did not have to pay much for her education, there were numerous grants awarded to her as having top results in high school and undergraduate studies. The other two had to take out the BC student loan but this was very easy to obtain. Returning this loan is now so easy as both of them are now professionals. For Phd studies you get a stipend, which is quite ok.
- My wife, she is a strict disciplinarian and detail oriented. Started very early with the babies. One example: showing them how to hold a pencil correctly. Half the population here in Canada do not hold the pen the way it should be held. The younger generation are even worse so much used to texting. Cannot write properly.
- The Desi Evening Chai Time, one of the most important time in our houshold where each person has to narrate how the day went by and how to tackle the next day. Major decisions are made during this Chai Time. My philosophy: All family have to be present at this evening chai time. You drink Tea and you keep on communicating and communicating.
These are just some key points but there are many more. By the way in 2001 we emigrated from UK and not India and in UK the $30,000 which was 15,000 sterling pounds at that time was plain peanuts.
Hope this helps.

He came to see my apartment to rent as a tenant when I was new to the country and now he owns a motel and few properties. I hope I inspired him. ;-). He is very hardworking and takes calculative risk and typical Gujarati businessman who is very helpful just like Fido, AshwaniG. I take this opportunity to thank all three of them.We all came a long long way and are successful and happy in Canada.

HW36,
I think it's not a good practice to disclose info (even non-personal) about other people online. I know your intentions are good, but in the online world, people appreciate their anonymity. What they say or do in real life should be a best kept secret. This is what I think at least. You meet some posters in person, good. But, keep it at that. It becomes a bit uncomfortable for the ones you mention about.
Just a suggestion.
