• Completed 10 years in Canada, we (husband & wife) landed in April, 2005
• We are now a family of 4, had both my kids here (son and daughter)
• Came with $15,000 from Mumbai
• Thought process has changed in these 10 years, life here has made me more matured, and now I look at life from a different prespective than what I used to before landing here. Is it because I am 10 years older……maybe, who knows? :-)
• Been to India practically every year to visit parents and meet other social obligations
• Bought a house in Mississauga (prime location), and a new car
• Lead a disciplined life, worked smart, invested and also saved (yes, it's possible in Canada!!)
• Total net worth about $1 million now
• Became a citizen of Canada, and a OCI
• Acquired some silver hair and baldness :-)
• Overall happy and satisfied
• Won't go back to India permanently. Would be spending winter months in India, and summer in Canada/US

Congrats , Gollu and spouse.

Wish you all the very best.

As I have said, IT / Finance is one of the best fields in Canada for banking or you must land with an diploma / arts degree with no skill and no money.

The intermediate people (BE Mech, BE Elec, Msc. Micro biology, MBBS) will get the shaft nicely in Canada.

Anyways once again, all the very best to the OP. Glad that Canada had worked out well for you.

Congratulations to you both and the family for your settling down here successfully and feeling very comfortable amidst the crowd. Is Grey hair or the salt and pepper scalp with a spot that is balding a sign of settling down here in Canada or is it that you miss the regular Hair Products that you were used to since your childhood while living there in India? Could it be the lack of care you exercised in your grooming during the earlier period.? A few people say that it is due to the stress that you undergo here in the newer surroundings. You have to validate the points.

Your thrifty living here is certainly worthy of note and the mode of savings and the method of investments surely deserve kudos from all of us and not to copy or emulate, would be appreciated, if you can elaborate the same with an explanation for all of us to get to know how.

If you can do all of this at your age and you can sojourn to warmer regions in the winters, could you tell us how are you able to accomplish this and maintain schooling for the kids here in Canada?

Would certainly appreciate your comparison of standards and conveniences that were there in India and currently the ones that you are enjoying here in Mississauga to decide that you will not return permanently to Mumbai India? This statement that you are making today looks to be a very hard and determined one and hence all of the questions that I would like to ask and get some directions for all of us to take into consideration, when we all are struggling to make up our minds.

Good Luck to you and the family and may your success become contagious here on this Canadian Desi board.

I find that it is worthy of note and thank you for the posting to us.

FH.

Glad at least someone is happy .

but for most of them i would say take RG's advice : 'Poverty is a state of mind" , same as settling down in Canada , you should think : Happiness is state of mind" - :) :) :)

i read OP comments - he has been visiting India every year - that will give him peace of mind...

so people if you miss your home country lot then keep some budget aside to visit at least once a year then you will not complain about staying here - most people missed their social life back home.

both country has plus/minus - and visiting your home country often will make you satisfied - but everything comes with price so be ready to sacrifice or worked double or smart to handle expenses on both side.

I am lucky enough to visit my home country once or twice a year , me and my family love and enjoy both places.

We are all lucky to have canadian passport ( you can travel most of the worlds without much hassle ) , so take this opportunity to visit world - life changes often so dont worry much about it - just spend some time travelling with family/friends
