Lol !
For OSAP you need one year residency in the province of Ontario and a good credit score. The OSAP system is designed for Canadian natives where they will build up their credit history from age 16-18 by doing summer jobs and possibly take a one year off after their 12th and work to save money. It is not designed for immigrants to land take OSAP the next month.

Pre Apprenticeship training in HVAC and Plumbing will not cost you much. If you are coming as an immigrant, you can surely foot the bill.

Areas to save money are food (use food banks, soup kitchens), rent (stay like 6 people in a 2 bed apartment) etc.. Work a day or night job for cash flow.

You may be eligible for welfare but even that has a 1 year residence requirement. So basically for 1 year, you are screwed in Canada and have to spend from your own pocket. If you take welfare (from year 2) only disadvantage is that you canot sponser relatives for visa or immigration (except a spouse). For welfare application, you need to have not more than $ 3500 as your total assets and a car not more than $ 2000. They will find out your money in the bank account and hence most of these illegal welfare scammers, keep their money in cash. Cash money no one can find out.

All the best and welcome to Canada !

Murali.

There might be some schemes running (season wise) for waiver of tution fee etc...
Please contact your local MP and he wil advise you if there are any current schemes running which can help you.

Also go to the community college of your choice and speak with the professors / HOD regarding this. Some may have job oppertunities in which you will be taken under the HOD/ Professor and the money will help you pay for the course.

It is a very hot course with many people taking it (through second career). The more famous the course it the longer waiting period and less funding for it.

Hiring trend in HVAC industry has changed big time in past 12 years .
There are three levels of licence . You start with G3 than G2 and finally G1

G3 allows you to work as helper under direct supervision .
G2 holder can work on residential units upto 400K BTU
G1 is commercial . Its tough to work but 80-100 $ / Hr is a renumeration that's hard to earn in many fields .

There were times when big companies like Direct Energy , Enbridge etc hired people with G3 and helped these ppl to grow at their expense and training to get G2 and G1 .

Now a days no one wants to hire even with G2 licence unless you have residential Air conditioning licence 313 D . Requirement of writing an exam for 313 D is 5 yrs industry experience .

Slowly and steadily now trade people are even being asked to have Electrician license besides HVAC and AC license .

It is definitely GOOD PAYING industry but getting first break is not easy . Maintaining your license is 10 times more difficult . Any mistake can be your last mistake . So chose wisely .

Contact Happy woman 36 and she will help you.

Besides she has already posted the links in another thread.

Come to Canada and also join the Gabrielle learning centre (free but having waiting period) and you will be on the road to employment in 3-6 months.
