I read all the books of Rohington Mistry . They are wonderful. Reminds you of 70's and 80 's \"Bombay\".

Another great Indian author is Hari Kunzru with his "imressionist " and "transmission"..

He was awarded a booker prize recently right? Also I think he's the same guy who refused to go to the U.S. after being harassed by some immigration officer because of his beard once.

Thanks for the info, I'll have to pick up one of his books soon.

My son, 17 years of age, seems to be hooked onto Rohington Mistry. When we last went to India, the only shopping he did for him was books by Rohington and Vikram Seth I think.

I started reading A fine Balance on recommendation of an old but educated Jewish Canadian lady, but could not come to appreciate it much, and so did not finish it. It is perhaps because I, like many others perhaps, have actually lived that less than ordinary life, and so could not find anything fascinating about it, as do my son or that old lady who have never seen such a life.

It is something like the furniture these westeners buy which is with rough finish /unfinished look to give the country style look. To them it is great looking and exclusive, to me it reminds me of days when we were amongst the really poor ones!

But please don't get me wrong - nothing against Mistry per se.

Thanks to Caadian libraries i can now read a lot of books which i couldnt buy in India.

Our family must have read hundreds of books since one year in Canada.

i guess i would have recovered the Income Tax which i pay by now.

This is one good utilisation of the Tax payer's money.
