"Ever dance with the devil in the pale moon light?"
"I always ask that of all my prey."
"I just like the sound of it."
I will read the other one.
One of the interesting thing about the India: A Wounded Civilization is a chapter where he goes witha social worker into the Slums of Bombay to see how things are organized. the social Worker belongs to Shiv Sena, If I remember correctly. Interesting to note that Shiv Sena was very constructive force among the poor in BOmbay.
???COmments on my statement???

WHAT A GREAT AUTHOR...
ROHINTON MISTRY HAS WRITTEN SOME FANTASTIC BOOKS..
I HAVE RECENTLY MOVED TO CANADA FROM ENGLAND AND ENJOY READING HIS BOOKS SOOOO MUCH THAT ON MY LAST TRIP TO INDIA I BOUGHT MORE BOOKS THAT I THINK ARE JUST AS GOOD.
AS I WAS READING THRU FAMILY MATTERS I REALIZED THAT I COULDNT PUT THE BOOK DOWN,,,,,,CHAPTER BY CHAPTER I WAS REITERATING WHAT I HAD READ TO MY MOTHER AND FATHER, WHO WERE STAYING WITH ME AT THE TIME...AND I COULD RELATE TO THE CHARACTERS....
FANTASTIC READING.....I WOULD LOVE TO MEET THE GUY ONE DAY..
NOW YOU MENTIONED HUZRI... WHAT TYPE OF BOOKS ARE THESE????
I DONT KNOW IF YOU HAVE READ ANYTHING BY MANJU KAPOOR ?? (I AM CURRENTLY WAITING FOR MY BOOKS TO ARRIVE FROM THE UK.) BUT I REALLY ENJOYED READING**** DIFFICULT DAUGHTERS.... LADIES COUPE....MARRIED WOMEN? ..... AND AND A REALLY INTERESTING BOOK I RECENTLY READ WAS CALLED.... RICE MOTHER... AND ANOTHER ONE CALLED 100 SHADES OF WHITE...these particular books were ones i couldnt put down.
anyway i am sooooo glad someone enjoyed rohintan mistry as much as i.
another great author is " Bapsi Sidhwa " ..... I have read both of these writers .... and personnally feel they are both of the same calibre.
Crow Eaters
The Bride
Ice Candy Man
Cracking India
Rohinton .... is a notch above Bapsi ... but anyone who reads Rohinton must try Bapsi Sidhwa too ..... as a matter of coincidence both of these writers have adopted Canada now and are in the GTA. ....... while we are on the Candian Desi writers topic .... if you are interested .... do try Irshad Manji's " Trouble with Islam " .....
-----------------------------------------------------------------
When the Axe entered the forest ... the trees cried out ..... It is the Handle that is one of us.
Rumi
"Shantaram" is a very interesting one too. This Gora actually lived in the slums of Bombay.
also the new movie " Bourne supremacy" has its story based in Goa.
-----------------------------------------------------------------
You know you are a desi when ........ You spew forth the virtues of India, but don't want to live there...............You've never had a tanning salon membership
Did anyone read A Fine Balance by Rohinton Mistry....another classic!
Also, just wanted to know if anyone read Siddhartha, by Hermon Hesse? I heard it's supposed to be brilliant but can't get a copy of it from my local bookshop.
