Hasni:
I just said based on your listing.
I need to know your career, experience etc.. GTA is under terrible recession and even locals are unable to find jobs (out of university).
Toronto is the best place to find jobs. So you need to be put up at the pherifery. Etobicoke (near Islington stn) is ideal as you can reach Toronto and Mississauga from the same place.
There might be a very good chance that you might find your first jobs in Burlington or Guelph. So nothing is impossible in the GTA.
Stay near Islington stn. and you canot go wrong. Even schools in that area are not that bad but will be full of Middle east , lower class Desi people.
Mississauga is home to a lot of blacks and middle class / decent desi people.

FIDO will also say the same about mississauga.

Peace by Murali.

Peel region
Brampton - full of desis , known for different scams , highest car insurance due real and staged car accidents . Still affordable
Mississauga - In some very good areas property starts from 1.5 milllion and up . Port credit will be my favorite place if I can ever make a move . Mississsuaga is and can be very good place to settle provided you chose the area wisely .

York region - Comes with a relatively big price tag .
Markham - Full of IT and other companies . too many chinese driving property prices crazy .
Vaughan - strategically well located . Close to all highways . Commute to east or west is not an issue ..

Durham - Lesser said is better but Scarborough may offer you old but affordable housing .
Scarbourough
Oshawa - Way too far from everything . Not many desis and thus kids may have some issues in school . No jobs , indian groccesries or shopping malls here .

Dear Murli, I am engineer by profession and would prefer a mixed community. When you say GTA is under terrible recession, does it apply to survival jobs too ! Like if I look for a job at some big supply chains, superstores or atleast do some sort of course as most of the guys do to get some security job initially ! Otherwise I know I have to keep myself open to whole Canada and can't afford to be choosy when it comes to my professional job. Still you think Etobicoke is a better choice !!

Dear Ashwani, wonderful explanation, at least one thing is clear from your reply that Bramption should not be in my list anymore. Can you name few other places that in your perspective be considered good for a starter, and what is so special about Port Credit, pls share. I have heard about Erin Mills Parkway, how do you see this place!

Hasni
Everyone has a different preference when it comes to choosing neighborhood . One area may be good for me but may not work for a newly immigrated person . I myself landed in Mississauga and lived for almost 5 years in Scarborough before I made a move that suited my requirements . I had better schools and proximity to highway as top priority .
You may want to land here first , visit the areas and see what is AFFORDABLE and convenient .
As others have suggested Etobicoke is well connected and have nice public transport which may not be so prevalent in York region .
None of the jobs are easier to comeby without proper Networking . Experience , education and qualification comes second .

I guess not most of the immigrants get the jobs of their profession rightaway and start with survival jobs.

I think your question was answered, understood you will do survival jobs during first few months, for that , stay near well connected public transit. to give example area near Kipling stn should be one place to take accomodation. Survival jobs are everywhere, so cannot point out a city.
You are enquiring about cities, there is no city which is wonderfully good or extremely bad here. It dpeends on your situation. I have lived in Etobicoke, Markham, Now in Brampton. Also own a condo in Msauga city center. I am enjoying Brampton the most -friends, food, affordable bigger house,, near airport. others were boring places to be in. Thats for me, As i said it depends who are you and what you want in life. But as an immigrant first few years you have no choice but to fend for self. You will have plenty of time ot chose your city.
AshwaniG also said the same thing.

Daer AshwanG and San

Appreciate your replies. In my case upon arriving I intend to purchase a car rightaway, so I am not much bothered about being close to Go stations, but only that I stay in a neighbourhood with decent mixed communities, should not give an impression of a single community at all, like the are few that can be labelled, I hope you know what I mean, second comes schools with good rankings which obviously we don't see in some neighbourhoods, thirdly the survival jobs...I tend to disagree with the notion that " survival jobs are everywhere" , they may be but the question comes where they are easy to get. For example if someone is living in Richmond Hill while other is in Toronto downtown, chances for getting a quicker and better job for the one who is living in Toronto are obviously much higher, correct me if I am wrong ! I am also not much worried about the house rent part cuz going through various sites I have learnt that it's a matter of max 100 or 200 CAD, I might get a basement for 950 for two beds in Brampton while the same may be 1150 in Vaugan ! Tell me if considering my situation you can tell some specific areas, cheers

Buying a car and being able to drive a car in Canada are completely two different things . If I am not mistaken than it will be atleast 6mnths to a year before you can actually graduate to drive by yourself . There is a reason that all CD"s are stressing on your job situation to chose right place to live .
Specific Area to chose based upon schooling and good neighborhoods -
Toronto Area - 401 & Leslie , 401 & bayview , 401 & Yonge
Vaughan Area - Most areas are not bad . Try to be close to ETA 407 area . Dont go past Major Mac.
Richmond Hill - Same applies as for vaughan area .

In any city / area you will find it that one particular community is in abundance . There is no mix and match community areas ( atleast that I have come across ) .
I really hope that you land a job asap as 100 CAD will start making big difference otherwise with in no time .
Good luck with your decision .
