Yeah i am with you. I have been to Guvernment and hit Adelaide, Richmond, King Streets. There is action there, but nothing like Spain-No measured pegs and everybody there is into sun sand sea sex both guys and gals alike-Jes can't beat it for partyin' Only se habla espanol unless you are in the Canary Islands in Tenerife, Mas Palomas and Lanzarote- you can get by in English and it rocks even more than the mainland.
Anyway, I do believe the folks who flash on DXB are those educated in India and not born, bred and educated in Canada.
I am born in India but prefer Toronto to DXB. And as you say DXB is a good place to invest. I have investments there but chose not to move there despite having several offers.
Anyway, rock on. DXB don't have no Shania Twain neither, nor Avril Lavigne nor Michael Fox nor Christopher Plummer nor do they stage 3 day music festivals like at Owen Sound recently.How about the film festival now on? Yeah man Toronto has many plus points. And also Vijay Singh is here to play at Glen Abbey.
The Sikh community here is large so they can afford to have plush gurudwaras. In Spain where there are hardly any surds, there is no gurudwara.It is all dependent upon the numbers. Also Sikhs would rather move to Canada and Australia where they can get away with things even banned in India. Like wearing kirpans to school. Totally banned in Maharashtra and some other states. Here they work on the ignorance of Canadians and use the freedom of religion caveat to do as in Punjab. Please note all those of the Sikh religion, do not read anything more in this statement, I am just saying that in freeom of religion, Canada is better than Maharashtra, a state of your own country. I wonder if they will allow you to do that in DXB? (How about France?). That is why Canada is good in many ways.

The business I am in is Comapct refreshment centers. Ie vending machines of pop and snacks. This is a time tested staple business for which the banks will advance you 75% without questions asked. So if a machine costs 8000 you put up 2000 and the bank the rest. If you want more info let me know on this post and I will give you my email so you can contact me. Very good sure shot money maker. You can do it while doing a job. Per machine you require 2 hrs a week to service only
Another business i am in is ATM machines. This is more problematic but also a good money spinner.
Then the last thing I do is I am a financial advisor. I do RESPs, RRSPs, Mortgages, homes, insurance, investments etc. Also very good but needs certification. The former machine business doesn't.
The vending business was shown to me by a kind Gujerati gentleman in his 60's. i can do the same for you or anybody who is interested. Just let me know and I will post my email.

I haven't been to Spain, so I can't comment on that.

However, Toronto in my opinion has the best lifestyle overall -- taking into account employment, leisure, crime, government, citizen rights, raising family and education. I have travelled throughout Northern Europe, Asia and the South America's. There are some better places than Toronto in terms of partying and having fun. But living there? Yeah right. If that was the case, everyone would be moving to Barbadoes, Cancun, Jamaica and the Dominican Republic. None of these places are places to live, they're just to kick it up in the sand and to relax. Their prime source of income is pretty much tourism and you can't expect much more than that.

I miss Dubai . I left in 95 ...i am told a lot has changed since then ...Bur juman center was just built and a lot of development was going on then.
Miss the indian feel of the place and long drives to Al Ain.

Pardon my barging in here. Never been to Dubai and not really planning on going there either. No reason to.

I just have a question for those who claim that nightlife in Dubai is better than that in Toronto. What exactly are you comparing? I'm not being sarcastic, I'd really like to know.

Btw, I should add that I've done my fair share of hanging out on Richmond/Adelaide in the past and had a blast! Sadly, the crowd now's too young for me there, but Croc Rock in Mississauga is just my kinda place. "On the Curve" across Sq. One is pretty cool too.

Frankly even I found the reference to dubai's night life being better than Toronto, a little far fatched ...unless i am missing simething and things have changed.

I feel , and i may be wrong , but Dubai is more like an ultra mordern desi city ....unlike torotno which is much more internationally vibrant.

Comparing night life ...i dont think it comes close to toronto ...but thats my opinion from 10 yrs ago ....i may be wrong .... those who came from there recently can tell better.

Nice to see all the banter abt our good ol' dubai on this forum.
Im an architect and so is my wife. We are coming to toronto around the 20th of this month (september). Does anyone know if there is any problem if i drive down from Newyork and enter canadian border thro the niagara falls region?
I asked these consulate guys in Abudhabi, and they were very snobbish and asked me in return why do i think i would have a problem.
