Vijaya31,
My recall clearance certificate was a fax copy and it did work for me. It all depends on the inspector. He was very friendly and helpful in my case. I did go through the vehicle registration process in Hamilton, ON. - Raj
Hello Cd's,
I am planning to buy a second hand Car from a North Indian. He told me that the car was imported from the USA. He is actually quoting a price which is very less from the market price and the Car has been listed for a long time.
Is there a catch when buying a car which has been imported from USA? It is a 2001 Nissan and has 63K Kms. in it and he is quoting a price of $7000. I have seen from my earlier experience that once a car is quoted for a price less than the normal market price it is picked up very quickly. This car has been around for 2 weeks.
I would appriciate if any knowledgable CD could respond.

TK, do a Carfax check of the VIN no. of the car. It will be worth the investment if you are serious about this purchase. There are a lot of 'salvage' cars from USA that find their way up here. Also, make sure you take it to a mechanic and have it checked. You may also want to ask for any maintenance records before finalizing.
Also, make sure whether it is 63K MILES or KMS. since the car is from USA
Good luck.
TK and others planning to buy used cars from the states or even those out of the province must be vary. There is no national guideline on salvage cars and especially no international guideline on salvage cars. Cars that were considered a write off in one province can be fixed and re-sold in another province. Also keep in mind that an estimated 200,000 vehicles were written off due to Katrina. These vehicles were submerged (partially or fully) in the flooding, or were crushed under collapsing garages etc. These vehicles are still being peddelled in the US, Mexico and Canada.

Thank you IBCD 2005 and others,
I registered with car fax yesterday.
Today, I went and test drove the vehicle. The owner (An Indian) told me that it was a good car and that he was giving it to me at $1500 discount since it was an American car. He also told me that many people looked at the car but no one has responded till now.
I ran the VIN number in Carfax and found that it was a salvaged car from a major Car accident in New york state in 2003. If only IBCD 2005 had not informed me I would have been cheated. Thank you so much. The max. I would have done is that I would have asked for $500 discount and bought the car and would have been stuck with it.
Maybe it is better to buy from a dealer. I have another good car from the dealer. The Km. is 166K but the price is in the Early 6000 range (Nissan 00 model)

Hi TK !
B4 buying a car with 166 K I will think 100 times ,,,
If you are really desperate to go for unexpensive car try repodepo.ca ..
US is definitely a cheaper place to buy cars .. If you know someone ask them for a local newspaper .. On an average car of 10000 $ you might be able to save upto 20-30 % ..But just do run a credit check as previously advised by others ..
