My Canadian passport will expire in April. I found the application and everything is allright however it has a column where it asks for proof of citizenship and here are one of the four things they want
Certificate of Canadian citizenship
Certificate of Naturalization in Canada
Certificate of Retention of Canadian citizenship
Certificate of Registration of Birth Abroad
Is certificate of Naturalization in Canada the same as record of landing? This is the only thing i have. Can someone please guide me step by step as to what i need. I heard it takes 20 days to get it renewed.
I am thinking i need the following to send
1) Current passport or copy
2) Record of Landing
3) 2 Pics
4) application
5) Grantor (who has a 5 year passport)
Please let me know if i got this right
Thanks
Mo
Certificate of Naturalization in Canada is not the same as Record of Landing
If you have a Canadian pp, it means you are already a Canadian citizen, in which case you should have your Citizenship card & certificate. That's what is needed.

If you are applying from Canada or the USA and your previous Canadian passport was a regular passport that is marked as being issued in Canada within the last six years, was never reported as lost or stolen, and you are not planning to change details such as your name, you are eligible to use the Simplified Renewal form. With this form, your passport alone can serve as proof of citizenship for the purposes of renewal, and there is no need for a guarantor to sign. You will have to send the original passport by mail.
Look here for the form. http://www.ppt.gc.ca/cdn/ren.aspx
If you are not eligible for this process, then an old passport cannot serve as a primary proof of Canadian citizenship. Assuming you are a naturalized citizen, the only document you can use is the wallet-sized Certificate of Canadian Citizenship. http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/citizenship/proof.asp
Your Record of Landing (IMM 1000) is practically useless, although I wouldn't throw it out as it's the only document that can easily establish when you first entered Canada as a PR.
