Hello,
I have just now registered with Canadiandesi. I have a very particular question in mind about our immigration status and we are very eager to acquire Canadian citizenship. Our situation follows:
1) We are canadian immigrants - landed in June, 2003
2) We are holding PR Cards valid till the year 2008
3) Our younger one is a student at Carleton University from September, 2003 (4-year Engineering Undergraduate program).
4) We (myself and my wife) are staying in Doha-Qatar as part of work commitments. Our eldest child is staying here as well as part of her
studies

We understand that two years of residency is required to acquire
citizenship. Taking into account our scenario, please advise how we can all formalise canadian citizenship. Apprecaite your reply.
Thank you.

You need to have been in Canada 3 out of prior 4 years [from date of citizenship application] to be eligible for citizenship. Your information about two years is wrong.

a lot of confusion on the 2/5 year and 3/4 year rules...

you have to understand, the first applies to maintaining your pr status (reside in canada two years out of five to remain a pr of canada) and the second applies towards eligibility for citizenship (reside in canada three years out of four to become eligible for citizenship)...

they have nothing to do with each other and are seperate requirements... except for the obvious that you cannot become eligible for citizenship if you are unable to maintain permanent residency...
