Thanks Sukhwinder Ji for all your guidance at all times.I am impressed with you and others who have always given the right advice to one and all.Can u pl tell me when can I apply for citizenship.I have already gone thru all your articles earlier but I want to make it sure.
I became a permanent resident on 01 October 2000.
I have been out of Canada for the following periods:
(a) 01 jun2001 to 23 jun2001 = 23 days
(b) 02 jan 2002 to 11 feb2002 = 40 days
(c) 01jun 2002 to 31may 2003 = 365 days
The total absence from Canada amounts to 428 days till now.Can you please tell me when can I file my application for citizenship. Thanks and with best regards.kamal
Hi Kamal,
First of all please don't use my name on heading of thread as you are asking questions on a public forum. You are most welcome to PM me if you have personal question .
Now let's go to your question, in your case you don't need to do any calculation as you been out of Canada for 365 days on your last trip and that's the maximum time we can spend outside country within 4-yr window.
So, to cover your previous absents you have to live until 11 Feb 2006 to be eligible for Citizenship. This is all because of 4yr window, as you are trying to cover your previous days now, you are also loosing days you spent in Oct 2000 because whole 4yr window in shifting.
Also, keep in mind that you can always count partial days spent in Canada as full-days, so, if you left Canada on 1st June 2002 and came back on 31st May 2003, you can count these days as days spent in Canada. And same goes for 11 Feb 2002. I’ve not taken 29th Feb 2004 into account to be on the safe side, as it’s always worth to wait extra couple of days to be on safe side

You can not count the day you leave canada but you can count the day you return to canada. You can count 29th febu, 2004 as a day if you were present in Canada.

Driller the thriller
To Sukh,
I landed in Toronto on October 15 2001 and left back to USA as i have a job there, but there is no stamp in my passport that i left Toronto. I filed my taxes with zero dollar for the year(2001).
For 2002 also i filed zero dollars only.
From USA i made a trip to india for two months and returned to Canada in March 2003.
My question is am i elgible to apply for citizenship in january 2004, is there any proof i am out of country.
You have to be a physical resident of canada 3 out of 4 yrs to be eligible for citizenship. When you are a resident you are supposed to pay tax on your world wide income to canada and cannot file zero taxes.BY filing zero taxes in canada you are automatically a non- resident for canada.

We will find a way or we will make one
Correct me if i am wrong??
I am spending the money i brought canada, and i didn't find suitable job here that's why i filed zero dollar income.
