Some numbers can be found about child poverty in Canada at the following website:
http://www.campaign2000.ca/rc/unsscMAY02/un10.html
Despite the growing economy and increases to the Canada Child Tax Benefit, Canada's low income families struggle on incomes that average more than $9,000 below the Low Income Cut-off (LICO). Women raising children on their own are most likely to be poor. Severely reduced social and economic supports to families are not adequate to meet even the most basic needs. Since 1989 food bank use has increased by 90%. Children make up only one-quarter of the population, but comprise 41% of food bank recipients.
Thanks and regards.
