On the whole what type of vehicle do we pay low insurance and yet has got a good market standing ( new or old). I am planning to buy one checked the insurance premium online and got a quote of CAD 450.

Though I had driven in Dubai for 10 years without any accidents, here I got a G2 but the premium appears to be too high.

I met one chinese guy who had new Car and he has been here for 4 years and he said that he is paying around $180.00 mean less then what I am paying...I asked him how come you r paying less...he said we have some chinese gorup insurance that is why ...he said you might have some Gujrati/Indian group Insurance...so if chinese people have group Insurance...why Indian people do not have group insurance ?

Why people are not responding to this topic too much ? ..as this topic is very important to save someone $$ money after insurance........like some time this insurance comanys are taking more money then what we spend for food. ...

Ravi,

I have known about Meloche Monnex rates for sometime now and I do know that they are surprisingly cheap. The only catch is that one seeking insurance has to be either a member of professional body, for a graduate of some Canadian University, or some organisation which has Group insurance policy with them.

I have had my insurance from State Farm, and some people, including Sanjeev Manocha, a member of this forum who is an insurance guy, has told me that I should not even think of shifting to anyone else because they offer the best rates and their settlement of claim is best. I had been able to introduce my friend to State Farm luckily (since they have a very small open window every month and most of the times they deny new applicants) and he had got cheaper rates from them when he compared to any other quote. But later he joined MOF, and went to Monnex and his rates dropped dramatically from 165pm to 110pm just with 4 months driving record in Canada.

However, I tried to get the quote from Monnex, and they wouldn't give me since I am not a member / alumani of any institution which has group policies with them. I tried it again today, and they refused.

However, how good are they at settling claims, I have no information.

Chandresh, My figures are accurate. I can show you my policy if you'd like. I am in the GTA. I do agree the figures look odd, but they are right.

As you know, 2004 Oddyssey is a mini van with a good anti theft system (engin imoblizer (sp?)). That makes a difference as well. Further it's a mini van. which rated as a family, safe and responible drivers only (at least that is what the insurance companies believe). Since this is a new vehicle, the coverage is full.

The 97 Sonata, is high most likely becase it damges easily and cost is high for parts. And it's a car. There is no anti theft device. in it. Since this car is old, I have removed collision and comp coverage on it.

With regards to driving, I drive them both about the same (under 24k/year).

Further, becuase I have both vehicles with the same insurance company, they gave me a discount of about $190/year.

One thing that I've learned is that just because a car is old, that doesn't mean that it is cheaper to insure. There are other factors to consider.

Also the price paid for a car has very little impact on the insurance rate.
For example a Neon might be more expenive than an ML 350. NOTE I SAID MIGHT BE. There are many factors.

Meloche Monnex # is 1-866-843-9223

I AM JUST THE AVERAGE PERSON. I DO NOT WORK IN THE INSURANCE INDUSTRY. PERHAPS SOMEONE WHO HAS MORE INSURANCE KNOWLEDGE CAN ADD TO THIS.
