Actually no insurance company tells you how much "penalty" you have to pay if cancel the insurance mid-term. You have to ask specifically how much the penalty will be, they do not tell on their own. Sometimes you may not get an exact answer to that also as they will say after you cancel the policy, the data will be fed into computer and computer will calculate the penalty amount. Usually they should be able to give a range in dollar amount. Policy is usually for 1 year and if you cancel before that period, you have to pay penalty.

Last year i switched from ING Halifax as they had hiked the premium so i cancelled in between the term and they only needed a proof that i do have policy from another company and thats it no tricks i got the refund of my last payment in 5 days .

I paid US $52.00 for a 1990 Honda Civic a month from GIECO.
When i came to Canada i decided to ride the bus after seeing how they rip off on insurance here. Now i spend CN $80.00 a month on my bus pass.
Canadian auto insurance need competitors from the US to enter the market.

I had shopped around and found Gieco the cheapest. Their customer service is very good. They also mailed me a letter of good standing saying how long i was with them when i told them i was moving to Canada.
