What started as a very useful thread has meandered into useless information.

I am a Gents and not a Ladies.
I think one important thing is to let your parents know that you haven't forgotten how they were instrumental in building your foundation. Maybe not in those exact words, but that the values they instilled are still alive and well and that you intend to pass them on to the next generation. I think its important in your conversations to cite examples of things they've done in the past that made you a better/stronger person. I'm sure they'd like to know that all their hard work didn't go to waste.
Don't make critical decision without getting their feedback or at least informing them prior. Share you achievements with them, that'll make them immensely proud. Maybe water down your lows, but share those with them as well once in a while so that they know you're being honest.
And you don't always have to agree with your parents, that's just fake. Be gentle when you you disagree though, empathize with them and remember they were brought up in completely different situations that shaped their perspectives.
To sum it up with a cliche, make them feel loved. Doesn't matter what way you do it, everybody has a different perspective on this.

Are you there?

JK - actually as I mentioned earlier, I have researched this quite a bit - including long discussions with professors in Uni - Though you have a right to your opinion as do I - I think its like discussing religion - its too personal a belief.
I warn you: I question a lot. I feel thats how I learn. Especially traditions..whether Indian or "north american".
