This is an excellent site for making contacts worldwide with professionals from your field.
We had sent a contact request to a senior person in toronto and the request has been accepted. That person is going to forward our resume to the plant manager. This may be a very good way to approach people who are otherwise inaccessible.

Infact CD members can also network thro the site. Once the members see the site, we can discuss how to go about the connections and endorsements.

Anujark- A few questions which might help before I decide to join this:

1. Who recommanded this site to you?
2. Is he or she a member of this siter?
3. How safe is this site in terms of identity theft/getting your e-mail address and selling it to others (and so soon after joining the site you might find a lot of junk mail in your inbox)?
4. It does not offer any 'Guest' facilities - so it does not really show what the site can do without one becoming a guest.
5. Is there are regular interaction between members - either thru the site or separately thru e-mails/phones etc.?
6. Why would you consider another member as someone known to you unless you have really met him a few times or have been in touch with him thru any means of communication for some time? And why would one member recommand another to a friend or company or whatever, unless he really knows you well?

The idea behind the creation of the site seems good - but how does it really work I would like to know.

Chandresh..here are the answers...

1. Who recommanded this site to you?
Ans: My niece who is working in Microsoft.

2. Is he or she a member of this siter?
Ans: yes

3. How safe is this site in terms of identity theft/getting your e-mail address and selling it to others (and so soon after joining the site you might find a lot of junk mail in your inbox)?
Ans: I have joined since one month..so far no junk..plus I use gmail in which all spam is filtered. So i would not know. And when you sign up so many sites, you would not know from which site the junk is coming. I have heard that monster.com sells their database and don't really care for scams. Incidently, 4 years back when I had signed up for monster and I was not a member of any other site that time, in few days I had received an introductory mail from one agent inviting me to apply for migration to Canada! I did not come thro' them..that is a different story.

4. It does not offer any 'Guest' facilities - so it does not really show what the site can do without one becoming a guest.
Ans: I had signed up straight away..they allow you to make 5 contacts before becoming a paid member..that is what I figured out when i started using the site.

5. Is there are regular interaction between members - either thru the site or separately thru e-mails/phones etc.?
Ans: Members can not post their contact details in their profile. I saw only one member so far who had provided his email ID. All contact requests are routed through the site. If the request is accepted by the other person, then you get a mail from linkedin.com stating the contact details. Once you have the contact details, it is upto the two persons to remain in touch. It is upto you what details to provide ..the person who accepted our request has provided all details..email, phone, fax and address and stated that we can contact him on any of the given details.

6. Why would you consider another member as someone known to you unless you have really met him a few times or have been in touch with him thru any means of communication for some time? And why would one member recommand another to a friend or company or whatever, unless he really knows you well?
Ans: Forwarding the resume does not mean recommending it. I made 4 requests so far. One was denied, the other 2 are enroute and only this one was accepted. Before accepting he saw the profile on the site and might have felt that the profile suits the activities of the company. I don't know what exactly that person would have thought. He has mentioned that he is not the person who is the hiring authority but would forward the resume. Now if he does forward the resume, atleast the resume reaches the concerned person inplace of going to the dustbin in the HR dept.

yes the idea seems to be good and that is what I meant to convey..when we are trying at so many other places for jobs, there is no harm in signing up for this one, too. While sending the requests, send them only if the other person's profile / company is really useful. A person is allowed only 5 free requests so make the best of it.

Also note that the site is also meant for seeking right candidates for a company..or establishing business contacts. So if an employer is searching the site, he might also initiate a dialogue with the right person. Unlike workopolis/monster, the experience details including the names of the companies one has worked for are also stated so it is easier to find the right match.

Thank you Anujark!

So it is a paid site - well that should make it more reliable in my view (I could be wrong). What are the charges like?

By the way, if they contacted you after you opened an account in Monster- it is very simple. They pay as a employers and are authorised to look up all the resumes posted on the site. So like Primerica, they might be targeting the intending immigrants to offer them their services.

You can put in full details in Monster/Workopolis and the employer will be able to get all that info and decided on whether or not to contact you. However, in today's scenario, when demand is more than 10 times greater than supply, I do not think any employer would like to waste his time seiving thru monster/workopolis for the right match - he can get this just by a simple ad in the paper.

However, I think I will join this site.
