I think the war on Iraq has created more terrorists than before. The US is at a greater risk from terrorism than earlier. Americans live in a state of perpetual fear.

versus when? Before all this there was the embassy bombings. USS cole etc? America has been the 'Great Satan' since i was born.

He might have certainly furthered the interests of entities like Haliburton. I don't see how he has improved the interests of the Americans in general.

Yes these entities are the ones that provides jobs...if the people are well fed thats all that matters...no matter the kind of govt. e.g singapore, China etc

Can you explain GWB does not invade North Korea who is proclaiming again and again that they aer developing nuclear weapons?
Yet they did not even need one iota of evidence to invade Iraq when everybody (including the UN inspectors) were saying that there is no evidence of weapons?

Simply because Noorth Korea serves no strategic or economic interests.
They don't have barrels of oil, they are not the gateway into the middle east and they don't have a big capitalist market to invade.

This whole thing stinks of double standards, corruption at the highest level and steps back in time to the days of colonial imperialism - it is the same idea, only the weapons and the excuses have changed !

Not only does it stink...it is practised by practically every country. Maybe Bhutan does not do it.

Just like the British, America is essentially a land of Businessmen ( "shopkeepers" ).

And what almost *every* other country wants to be. India bullies her neighbours...so does China...and every other country that tries to further their own self-interests(rightly or wrongly)

Then why support Gandhi and all you said about non violence.

If everyone does it, then lets do it too. We couldnt be wrong.

You arguement is good for the right wing in India. They want a strident attitude when dealing with neighbors.

Fair question indeed.
I also made clear I do not support all their policies. I do not believe, like I mentioned before, that the right wing is always wrong. I was glad when the BJP came to power in India.

I am not saying anyone should do it(self intrest based policies) only that it is being done all over. Why hold Bush and the US to another standard when everybody desperately wants to be like America? Isnt that hipocracy?

As far as my beliefs are concerned...I'll give the example of an abortion...I personally believe it is wrong. However, if my wife choses to abort, I would support her, and continue to love her though I do not believe in abortion. I trust that she knows what is best for her.Luckily I have not been there.

By the same token, I dont expect you OR Patrick(or anybody else who feels passionately about their ideals) to agree with anything I say...because after all...we need the left wing too. Or in other words I do not wish anybody to be different than what they are. We will be that(likeminded), when all of us are ready to be that. Until then we can just exchange thoughts hoping to know each other better and work to that day.

So you agree that it is wrong?

I am strictly speaking with regards to India.
I would rather be a friend than a bully towards my neighbors.
I d hate to see India flex its muscles in the future.
I would say India is ok now. Not a great power, but not to be trifled with.

Sorry, I am a bleeding heart liberal.

Wrong according to my understanding of right and wrong? YES i think it is unjust(I did agree with Dtc) . The bullying, the war in Iraq, even the concept of different countries or the inequality between peoples, the pain, the suffering, disease, death, life.

I also am quite sure that my sense of morality should not apply to everybody. How do I know that? Simply because I am not having a 'Perfect Life'. If I had perfect thoughts...my life would reflect it.

If you notice I did defend Gandhi as a person and his philosophy. His politics and those of Nehrus...are probably as good ar bad as anybody elses. I did not defend those. I said I understood those(even support them because only they knew what they were dealing with)...just like I do Bush's. Also, I dont think I defended Nehru even as a person.

Is that enough justification from me :D ?

Like I said morality and world politics are two different issues...i'm merely drawing a distinction( OR "countries have no friends only interests" ). If we get morality out of the way...and focus on self-interest which is the reality of world politics, what do you think of Bushes performance?
