I applied from Buffalo in Sept,2001. I completed my interview in Losangeles in May 2003. On August 1st week, my e-client status was DECISION MADE. Until the end of August, I didn't receive any notification. When I enquired LA consulate, they said that they are waiting for the background check results. How long does it take for a national from India for the background check to be done?

Suppose if I had to leave USA before the decision is known, is it possible to get the passport stamping from India?

this check can take anywhere from 3-6 months.
new delhi cannot issue visa. It'll be LA.

If I had to leave USA, is it possible to send the passport to LA and get the stamping done? Will there be any problem in the customs?
