Canadian Dream, I hope you get your money back. could you update this post just so that we are aware of how the system works. I cant believe they are getting away with it. It is absurd and something unimaginable in my mind!

I am shocked as I was about to book tickets and am wondering which is the most reliable airline out here. I am going for a wedding to the U.S. and would not want to be held up at the last minute

Just to update this post: spoke with my credit card company yesterday and they asked for proof of itinerary (dates of travel) which I have sent them. The lady said I will get full refund, which will be credited to my account after the scheduled date of travel (April 2nd).

Yeah but driving to TO from Wpg is a 3 day affair with two overnight halts through some rugged terrain. First day is 9 hours to Thunder Bay and second day is 13h to Sudbury and then 4 hours to TO. Wont be able to do it with the kids. Also we loose like 6 days just driving to and fro; wont have any time (or energy) to sightsee.

I didnt ask about the taxes refund. Hope they pay back the entire amount. Gotta calll them again. Shooooot. This holiday has gotten on my nerves now!

Have you considered VIA Rail?
It will get you from Wpg to Toronto is just over a day, I think.
You can relax and sleep in the train - much better than driving 12 hrs. a day.
I am not sure about the fare though - I am guessing under $200 one-way - check on their website.

pratickm - we checked out via rail, in fact it was our first preference even over flight - we thought the kids would enjoy a train vacation and it would be unique. However viaRail fares (sleeper class) were much more than air fares. So we reluctantly decided to fly and booked with JetsGo. Now we are considering viaRail again as the tickets on WestJet and AirCanada have been sold out - the flights that are available are either too inconvenient or too expensive. So if we want to spend that kind of money (not decided yet) we might as well try viaRail and enjoy a unique vacation on rails.
