hi guys:

I am evaluating a job offer from Qatar. I just wana know whats the cost of living in Qatrar or UAE. Like how much would be my monthly expense with a family(me and my wife)
.I live in a reasonable price apartment in canada. paying $850 1 bedroom. my monthly expense is around $2000 including car insurance, food etc. SO how can i compare cost fo living in canada vs qatar.
Any guys lived there or know please answer this email

u seem to be living on the bare minimum i would say in canada as our outgoing with being a couple was way more than u did.

UAE is concerned in Dhs. would be 1200/- per month rent and other utilities and here again if you can live on this budget in canada, u can do it in the UAE as well. depends what quality you want

I've lived in the region for a substantial part of my life, but haven't exactly lived in Qatar:

For Qatar, I would say you could budget about QD 1,500 - 2,000 for rent for a relatively good one bedroom apartment. Living expenses should be in the region of about QD 2,000 for a reasonable standard of living for a couple.

This is of course relative, since one could get by with either a lot less or a lot more - many expats from the sub-continent get by quite frugally.

The UAE (read Dubai) is a lot different in terms of costs. Finding a place that compares with a decent apartment in Toronto is expensive - would very well cost in the region of 4k - 5k dirhams (closer to 2,000 bucks Canadian). A lot of sub-continental expats however, live in place called Karama, where the rents are a lot cheaper, I imagine in the region of about 2k - 3k dirhams - however, those apartments tend to resemble the low income housing projects here in Toronto...........

Car insurance costs in both countries are negligible (you shouldn't have to pay more than 1,500 to 2,000 QD/AED per year on a mid-sized sedan).

I used to visit Dubai on business once a month until I quit the region about 15 months ago, so this information is basically from a visitor's perspective.

Hope this helps.

1,200 Dhs in Dubai including utilities.............wow, I guess my memory's playing tricks on me! I remember my previous employers paying a lot more than that for my accomodation in a neighbouring country!

The guy who initiated this thread is paying $850 in Windsor, not in Toronto. BTW, even in Toronto, it is possible to find an apartment for 850 bucks in buildings without shared facilities.

I'm pretty certain you're off on your Dhs 1,200 number, you might want to revisit that.

Cheers

Cren, we lived a fairly good life in Dubai. I gave the guy in terms of what he could look at. There are places in Ghusais, Sharjah he could get for 1200 plus utilities.Sharing could be 1K including utilities. i left proper dubai 2 1/2 years ago

cherryl:

I wonder u must be living a vvip standard as in Cad $2000/month. its quite a decent life. breakdown
Rent:850 (includes utilities and cable).remember, its windsor
Food:400
Insurance car:120
Telephone etc:100
Fuel:100
Movies etc:100
Misc:370

Total: 2000
Anyway, i dont like to be sarcastic as u were in your comments, though 1200 dirhams, seems to be quite low to live in Qatar. Thanks for all other people for their input without remakrs
