Pratickm is Right ..... But the only thing I would like to correct is ---
One does not need TRV to remain in Canada... You can stay in Canada only with Study/Work Permit (Or any other permit) but if once you exit Canada you can not re-enter ... That's when you need TRV to re-enter...

Thanks for sharing this wonderful info. I need some more information. I will be landing in Toronto In August 05 on a temporary work permit, so at the earliest when can I apply for PR?? Since the timeline in this thread suggests that it will take roughly two years for the processing and my job contract at present is for two years only, I would prefer to do it ASAP. I am a Ph.D in applied sciences and will be taking a postdoc job at UT.
