IMO, SRK is nowwhere near AB - though the world seems to compare the two. In a very crude way, I think it is like comparing someone at the top of the class with 99% marks to the second guy in the same class with just above 50%!!!
I think the major difference lies in the fact that both Rajesh Khanna and SRK were/are liked by the female sex as romantic heros, but AB was the king of the masses - both male and female. His voice and personality coupled with his roles as the 'angry young man' touched everyone's heart.
While it is sometimes difficult to finish a movie of SRK (if I am watching it on the video) and tend to fast forward many a times, AB's movies are such that you like to watch them again and again...............and again, and even keep a collection at home!

I am a big fan of BigB. Infact I have had an opportunity to visit him at his home in Juhu, Mumbai. Oh My God....that was a great experience. We met the whole Bacchan family including Late Shri. Harivanshray Bacchan/Smt Teji Bacchan/Ajitabh Bacchan/Jaya Bacchan/Abhishek & Shweta (before her mariage). They all were so nice and friendly. We didn't notice a hint of arrogance or rudeness.
I am not saying SRK & family is not like that, but still there is no comparison. I can still watch Deewar/Shakti/Satte Pe Satta/Agnipath/Zanzir/Majboor etc many more # of times, but I can't keep on watching Baazigar/DTPH/KHNH/Darr. The only movie that I can watch many times would be DDLJ and that too coz of Kajol.

When one like to watch a movie again and again that's not always because of an Actor only.
If I like to watch Sholay repetedly that's not only because of Big B but because it's a perfect blend of everything(Direction,Dialogue,Amjad Khan etc etc).
Same thing applies for movies like Deewar/Shakti.
On the other hand I believe even Big B's greatst fan won't want to watch his movies like "Aaj Ka Arjun","Jaadugar",'Ganga Jamuna Saraswati","Ajooba","Toofan" repeatedly.
Lot depend on the director also...I won't mind watching light comedy movies of Hrishikesh Mukherjee and Basu Chatterjee repeatedly though most of the cases they're not made with big star cast/fancy sets.
Anyway East or West Big B is the best
