Yeah man I know "To sir with love" and Lulu (ah yes!). Was Sidney Poitier in the movie? (OK OK man , jes kiddin- He was in the movie)I thought the flick was excellent in them days- but I think 'tis kind of an anachronism these hyar days.
Yeah, desis gotta adapt to the veneer of courtesy over here- like "hello" "Thank you" , "good mornin" "have a nice day" even if it sounds hollow. I worked in an environment where these things were said by rote and like they failed to have any meanin except when they weren't said. If you said it -people acknowledged it but if you didn't they'd think what a strange dude.
In India there are languages that don't have the words please, thank you and other courteous phrases so you can't really blame them for omitting these when they come here- but you're right they gotta catch on and do it like real fast. Even saying "sorry" for small omissions help when there is no need to say sorry even.
Oh well 'tis cultural differences and small adjustments one has gotta make.

Hi to all...
cmanyan,
this is defnitley a good topic for desi's to know how these manners make a difference in canada. u may wish to be part of it or opt not to be.
cherryl
Yes I do agree with Ccherryl...this discussion is and would be very important for prospective immigrants. “KAM NIKALO AUR CHALTE BANO” type of attitude from new comers is keeping lot of Senior Desis away from the forum. That means… prospective immigrants won’t be able to get much help from the forum… is that fair????????
Thanks and regards.

As far as " Thankyous".. i think i have seens almost all posts carry a thanku at the end of a query... maybe there are a few..which dont..oh well then.....too bad for those who dont realise what is considered plain good manners .
But for those senior desis 'kaam nikalo aur chalte bano" types.. i'm sure everyone knows how it gets once ppl migrate to a new place , a new job.. isnt it unfair to think that they are all kaam nikalo types? i agree there must be some of those types aswell..but we shouldnt generalise. Dont get me wrong..i am not justifying their behavior...
The world is full of all sorts of people....not everyone is the same..but the difference lies in attitude... what we have here at canadian desi is definately praise worthy, and even tho i have recently joined..i find the forum very informative,(btw for that i thanku all out there..incase i might have forgotten to thank.. kabhi kabhi ho jata hai..) but yes it shudnt become a trend..hence such a discussion is definately good)) I think wat sets it apart is that there are some ppl who are sincerely devoted to it. People who take time out to answer any sort of query ,however silly it might be.. .. Ppl who have taken help from it an moved on...shudnt do so.. But at the same time we shudnt be quick in our judgement...
