Canada as a nation has failed. Its racial composition in government jobs are shame;essly negligle when it comes to employing visible minorities in public sector jobs.As a Canada will never grow.
Some people say USA has a 280 million population so it is a bigger oppurtunity, bigger economy and so on.Everyone knows that. But what about Australia which has 20 million people and if work in Australia even in Mc Donalds you earn AU $14/hr while in Canada it is $8/hr.Readers to note that Australian Dollar and Canadian dollar is almost equivalent in conversion rate.
Fools who say that you have to be here for 5 yrears for getting a good job has no idea what a good job is.I have seen so many immigrants who are still struggling even after 15 years in dead end jobs.LONG LIVE CANADA.CANADA IS DEAD!!!!

You are damn right. The Indian degrees and experience gets one the visa to leave india and settle in Canada. But one has to start from scratch.
And Bengal
the grass is always greener on the other side bud.

and it is same crap in Australia as well. Desi engineers driving taxis!
It is true that there are not enuff employees belonging to minorities in govt jobs BUT things are chaging fast. Three of my friends are working for canadian govt in plump jobs within 2 years of landing. Itis a sea change from what it was when I landed 7 years ago.
And sorry to let you know that each one of my 11 friends is working in a perfectly comfy job in less than 5 years , each earning more than 50K.
If there are loosers who could not find decent jobs even after 15 years then so what? I know of so many who could not find any decent jobs in India even after 30 years!!!

Cheers!!!!!!!
Its really very true that this site provides real insite of Canada for desis. I am just beginning to be habitual to the site. (Inlast week I have visted almost nine times)
But one thing still pinching me is that most of the experience shared here are negative and concluded to keep positive attitude. How one can have positive attitude after reading so much of negative side of Canada. Just an hour before I read loud some comments by few senior desis to my wife and she was really horified, started asking me Dear, are we doing mistake by planning for Canada? (I have finished medicals and awaiting visa since last 3 months!!! This waiting it self is turning out to be difficult for my wife and add to her worries I showe her such article. I was just trying to be honest to her and sharing the info I collected. Trying to make her unerstand that grass is not so green over there. But if we do our home work well we stand good chance.
So please share some good positive stories also at least for all expectant immigrants.
I do understand that there is no alternative for hard work. Being in India I beleive hard work what we do here is just the same you may be doing there. only the style and system is different. I have been told by many of foreigners friends an realtives that the work you do In India if you can do that in US or Canada definitely it will be rewarded 100 times then in India. (Provoded if I can do that there/ I mean if I get a chance to show) With info I get from you guys is that to get such chance is ifficult. If one get that chance then he has the world in his hand (Kar lo duniya muththi mein!!!) For that, as all of you said truly, one must have positive attitude.
During my study I had come across MURPHY's law: If somethong can fail, it will, at the most oinconvinient moment.
I have converted it for myself as : If something can succeed, then it will, only if you wish.
I hope to keep this with me till I rech to Canada and get my job.
Please correct me if I am wrong.

MERA BHARAT MAHAN (Thats what my wife says)
not all desi's are frustrated. Im one of those who are not at all frustrated and am very pleased with the decisions I have made. I would not have any(or it would have been really difficult) of the opportunities I have now, if I was still in India. The opportunities available to my kids is even greater.
Any new beginning is tough since one has to move out of ones comfort zone. It may well be one of the toughest times of your life. However, your attitude will make the difference. Speaking for myself I would never go back and settle in India if I can help it.
I wrote an article in the articles section called 'The biggest battles'. Read the same for my experience.
As a footnote, since it is not mentioned in the article, I have also just started my own tv/film production company in Montreal.

I really like the positive attitute of Plastic man. Way to go man.
I think most of us Desi's look at Canada as an alternatice to the US!. If i am not wrong, all the desi's who couldnt get in to the US opt for Canada, as a means to get in to the US after a few years. Lets be frank about it. Most of us also are not willing to come lower down the career ladder. Correct me guys.
Bharat,
Let me add my name to the list of highly satisfied desis living in Canada. I think its a great country and I could not be more pleased with my decision to move here. I'm quite content both personally and professionally and don't plan to move anywhere else. And I've lived in 5 countries so far (including India and the U.S.) so I do have some basis for an objective comparision.
There's both negative and positive stories on canadiandesi and I agree the negative ones outnumber the positive ones by a good deal. The reason for that is simple though. Most people start seeking out resources like Canadiandesi when they have issues settling down (whether they be immigration or job related). This is an ideal place for them to connect with their community and vent their frustration. Very few people who settle quickly or are already well-setlled bother to share their experiences with others, they just get too caught up with their lives. That unfortunately is the drawback with us desis, once we've secured a good life for ourselves, most of us don't think twice about giving back to the community (I do think that attitude is slowly changing)
There are of course exceptions otherwise there wouldn't have been a http://www.canadiandesi.com." rel="nofollow">LINK There's a few people on the board (and the number's going up slowly but surely) who'eve established themseleves in Canada and giving feedback to others who're on their way here. I think as Canadiandesi gains popularity, this list will grow significantly and you'll see a lot more positive stories.
My advice is don't be disheartened by the negative stories, instead learn from them and use other people's experiences to your benefit. You can't form an opinion about Canada based on other people's experiences, the only way is to take the plunge yourself. When you land here, block off all the negative stuff, inject yourself with dogged optimism and give it your best shot. Wish you all the best.
p.s. - Do share your experiences with us once you're here for the benefit of others who will follow.
