Hello to all great people of Indian origin... I have been lurking in this forum for a few months and thought I might \"come out\" and declare my presence known, now that I am settled in the cool cold country for the long haul! I am from South central India (A.P.) and have been cruising the world for decades. After running outa time in the US, I kinda \"innocently\" drove into Canada and actually like this country... except for its puzzling colonial status. I hired some attorneys and became a PR recently and got me a long term job with a university. So, Howdy folks? I should admit that here and there I did get some clues about how to go about filing for residency from the postings in this forum and so I guess I should say thank you to whoever has been posting here good info on so many topics... Sometimes, it is quite entertaining to read the various opinions and stories posted by people on here. Well, I am just saying hi to all of ye.
Hi Welcome!

Don't you feel better now that you've "come out"?
Welcome to Canada from another CD who waded from the US and decided to make Canada home. And don't let the colonial status bother you, it means nothing mostly.

Are you there?

The Royals are little more than parasites. I am not sure how much money Canada quietly pays to the British Royals these days but it used to be many millions just a few decades ago. The Govt.s (British, canadian, Aussie and the Kiwis) don't openly release the numbers but all these Govt.s are quietly paying up every year. Why do canadians need the queen on their currency? India left the Empire peacefully, just Canada did, but the Indians were smart enough to quickly discover their own heroes to honor on the currency notes and properly remove references to the empire. I feel awkward thinking about becoming a citizen here. If the queen is a Canadian, it would be a different matter. The constitution, budget and just about every document in Canada gives you the impression that you are in the colonial outpost of the Great Britain. In Australia, they are aware of these kind of matters and there is a movement to remove queen and her crap from their State. It is crazy to go from being a free citizen to one that is bonded to a queen who does not even belong to Canada! I have no issues with British declaring themselves as subjects of THEIR queen.
Wow ! such an observation in a few months !. I atleast took more than a year to get to where you are today.
I'll be watching out for your post to keep track of your transistion from what a smooth landing, opened my bank account, got a SIN card, OHIP card without any problems within a day and how smooth things are here. Followed by declaring the global income as ZERO in the first year IT return and getting a good tax refund, HST refund and praising how smoothly the system works here to slowly transitioning to where you are to where I'm today.
Much worse has been written about stuff here in CD. Please take some time out read a few posts of Canada BOO - HOO club members. In regards to your dilemma about the Queen, you are most welcome to sing \"Jana Gana Mana\" or your favorite Hindi Song (which include \"Choli ke Peeche Kya Hai\" during your oath.
I'll getting mine very shortly and that is what I intend to do.
Pssssssssssss!: A secret to your ears only: Do not come too hard on Canada. There are other people watching you !.The response will not match/confirm to the initial statement.

The Canadian Citizenship ceremony is akin to a marriage ceremony, where the husband says "I Do and until death does us apart" slips the fingers onto his brides hand and quietly looks over the shoulder to oggle at the Brides Maid.
Here the Citizenship ceremony is to obtain the passport and you oggle down south for a job with your brand new Canadian passport.

Speech by Thomas Friedman of The New York Times....
"When we were young kids growing up in America, we were told to eat our
vegetables at dinner and not leave them. Mothers said, 'think of the
starving children in India and finish the dinner.' And now I tell my
children: 'Finish your maths homework. Think of the children in India
who would make you starve, if you don't.'"
Hello Mr Sankar..... I hope you are not being cynical. I did not get anything as fast as you seem to make it out to be. I bought health insurance during the first six months (from the University) until my prof, who is also a British expat here, told me about the Medicare and then I swiftly switched to it. I made the trip to the US border (to land in Canada) about 5 months ago. Call it whatever, I got into the continuing position (which is addressed to only PRs and citizens) within 3 weeks after landing. Only days ago I received the medicare card that lasts longer (the last one was matched with the expiry date on the work visa) so I am still fresh blood here! Anyways, I am lucky I did not have to go thru some of the gruesome tales I am reading on here about employment and such... but then again, if things did not work out well, I most certainly returned to the good Ole US after the first year. Remember I said I am a materials scientist and we are still hot in the US market. Hell, I can run there this month if I wanted to... but I am feeling comfy here... I got my OWN office on the campus and sweet revolving chair. And I don't have to hear crap from other researchers in the group like, your curry smells wayyy too strong. I love Canada in most ways, except for its freezer burner cold and its lame submission to the wicked witch of England.
