Hello Desis,

this forum is really nice no doubt about it and it definitely helps a lot of potential immigrants or even the ones already in Canada. What kind of bothers me is when a private message is sent to any of the members, the members take time to reply to the best possible way and my personal experience is they send a couple of mails, get the information and then there is no mail "Thank You" . These people just dissapear. This happens 75% of the times.

Is this kind of Desi attitude or just people are never busy to pop questions but busy to say a thank you.

It is not only thru PM.. in forum also before landing people get all help and information from this forum and once they land they will disappear from the forum as if they were not in the forum at all.

They just want to get help and information from here but do not want to share information and spend time in the forum to help prospective immigrants.. kinda sad:(

Thanks and regards.
Biomed

How true Biomed! We have discussed this time and again - and it has happened with you personally a no of times - a person who has gone out of his way to receive people at the airport, bring them down to meetings or social gatherings, helping them to settle down in Canada and those people (specially the needy ladies) just disappear

OR JOIN THE OTHER SITE TO CHIT CHAT AND PLAN COFFEE OUTINGS!

It is really sad - and after all this one wonders whether we are not being taken for a ride. Well we do not want anything in return personally, but hope that once people have landed and taken all the help before and after landing, give back the same support and help to the forum and intenting immigrants which they expedted and received.

Guyz, ccheryl has pointed out some traits of "desi attutude's".
In doing so, she has also revealed a desi attutude...and that is
"Expectation"...and agar woh na mile toh "making a deal out of it"..

Canada is the land of the "Swarthi". You mind your own business and you are paid for minding your own business. If you go ahead and help someone then do so WITHOUT EXPECTING anything in return. For all ya hindus in the crowd..looks like you guys have forgotten a basic concept of the GITA...

"Karmanye Vaadhikaraste
Ma phaleshu kadachana"

If they dont say a Thank you..it reveals their character and trust me, those folks will not succeed in Canada. I muts admit, I also had such tendencies when I came here. However, 6 years+ in Canada, I have changed my lifestyle and I must say, this has been a postive and sobering experience of Canada :)

Just dont expect anything from anyone. If someone gives you something accept it gladly. If you get a word of thanks then be happy, else just carry on to help the next person. Afterall...

I do agree to ottawa nerd that when you do something do without expectation and do it gladly. But I think we as immigrants should realise the importance of magic words (which i guess not many use in india). There is difference between gaining monetarily and just getting a good word. As I said just with the same urgency one sends mails, i don't think it hurts to write one final e mail thanking the person.

I don't agree to the fact that peopel should forget manners ( this is not expectation) and it shows your class once you mingle with non desi's

personally i think this is a general forum and religion should be avoided.

Ho Ho Ho CCheryl... you have again revealed another trait.."intorelance" ( dont worry, I am also intolerant abt you-know-what *wink*)

Hope someone can explain what that line means :)

Manners as you said have to be learnt. For Desi's they should learn it the hard way ! Face a string of refusals and rejections and then they realize how such things as a "Thank you" or "Hello" makes a world of difference. Trust me, if they seek their dream jobs, they will undoubteldy be forced to learn and express these common greetings at every instance.
No point in hoping that they will change immediately. It took me close to about 8 months to realize the importance of being courteous in Canada !
