Here are some excerpts from this article :
" Falling prey to dreams of becoming millionaires created by these countries in their media, generation after generation of Indians packed their bags and made their way across continents and oceans to plug themselves into the Western economic experience and who knows, get affluent. "
**** I for one have never come across the CIC or the Canadian Media advertising that Immigrants automatically become Millionaires after coming to Canada!! This hype is created by the Immigrants (and those back home themselves ****
"He says, "But the fact of the matter is firstly, there are not many jobs here and secondly whatever top level jobs are on offer are "discreetly" reserved for the Canadians. The immigrants come last in the list of probables. "
***** Did he do his homework before coming to Canada? Did he seriously expect to get a "Top Level" job without having any knowledge of how the Canadian Market and Business works? Top jobs may be "discreetly" reserved for Canadians or those who behave like Canadians in terms of their adherence to Social etiquettes. I don't think there is anything wrong with that. I know I will get bashed for this, but I will say this anyway, I'd rather deal with a person who is polite, well spoken and willing to help rather than a guy who has no people skills, can't hold a decent conversation in English for more than a minute and doesn't want to help (Babu attitude) even if that person has ten times the experience. *******
" His e-mail to Voice read: "I may not be able to access my mail anymore now. There is no time left for me. My phone is gone and I am in a basement living on bread and water, waiting for the next three days to go by so that 14th dawns (the day he left for India). "
***** Bread & Water? Ever heard of unemployment insurance? Hell just goto a local Church and they will feed you for free
********
"Talking about the daily harassment and discrimination he faced in Canada from day one of his life there, he said, "The only advantage of Canada (for an immigrant) is its scanty population. But the narrow mind does more harm!"
****** Daily Harassment & Discrimination? Big Claims or Tall Tales? How many of our CD members have experienced daily harrassment & discrimination?
*********
"Looking back on half-a-decade's worth of knowledge garnered there he says, "Barring a very miniscule few, other immigrants have had to resort to unethical means to get rich quick. Skill, talent, knowledge, wisdom, hard work, honesty, discipline, loyalty etc. have no place here!"
****** Oh Yeah! so all the Indians doing well in Canada are crooks and those who are not are beacons of honesty?
*******
"Rasool came to Canada with $60,000, by disposing off of everything that he owned in India. When he left, he had earned $122,000 in five years. What did he have on his departure date? Just about $3,000 and a $750 car. "
**** Most of these Failure stories have a common pattern, the large amount of settlement funds an Immigrant comes with, and the pitiful amount of money they take back with them. If this guy really came with $60,000 and lost most of it, then I think the fault is with him, not Canada. A person with a sound financial education can turn $60,000 into a Million $$ no matter what part of the world they are in, specially in countries like US and Canada. *****
"His grouse is that Canada, rated as the number one country to live in has shocking cases of racism, brutality, and corruption. He says, "They may have hi-tech systems to detect and track down a car parked at a mall for 10 minutes over the scheduled time, but a child fast asleep at home, gets kidnapped and murdered yet the case completely baffles the police."
*** Maybe we should install hi-tech systems in every home to detect and track down every child who has been kidnapped for more than 10 minutes
. Remind me if the Indian police has gotten any better at capturing criminals (or helping them). Atleast in Canada you don't have to worry about a Police officer extorting you for money ******
"The cost of living is so high that it is impossible to make ends meet without a steady job that pays well. Because there are high costs involved in everything. With no family and friends in a new land, a man has to get insurance - life, medical and everything else in between to cover against calamity. But, insurance is so costly that it will drive you to penury too. Ghulam says, "Canada is supposed offer free medical care. However, a slight toothache resulted in an expense of $1,880 as the dentist did everything that can be done to a tooth and relieved me of all this money. And, finally my tooth itself! One visit means the patient is roped in for life! And if he has insurance, then the dentist becomes a millionaire in no time! But, if health care is free, how come eyes, teeth, and bones are not always covered?"
*** Are things in India Free? Do people not get Life, Medical and other forms of insurance there? True the premiums in Canada are higher even without the conversion factor, but then so are the coverages and limits. Oh! and by the way, if you go to the Dentist and get stuff done without first checking into the expenses and what insurance covers, it is not the dentist's fault. Whose fault is it really? See below

c. It is the Dentist, he is a crook
*****
"The most highly qualified professionals, with degrees worth dying for, can be found in Canada picking up garbage, driving taxicabs and delivering pizza!"
**** They used to say, One man's meat is another man's poison. These degrees worth dying for, may be so back home. Here, getting a degree is not as difficult as colleges have an open admission system. In the end, it all comes down to your people and language skills. People unwilling or unable to improve on these skills will always face the problem of "Canadian Experience' *******
This is the longest post I have ever made at CD. I am sick and tired of these so called "Broken Dreams" stories. If an Immigrant failes, it is mostly becuase of their inability to adapt to change. When the going gets tough, the tough get going and those who don't get left behind, like our friends Zeller and Rasool from the article.

....what is amazing is that when \"desis\" came here from East Africa mainly Ugandans they have done better by light years than expected.
I wonder what skills they had that the others were lacking?
